Ford Ecosport : Multi talented urban commuter
Ever since the entry of compact SUV's in Indian Market, the segment has boomed with an extraordinary pace and has not looked back. With a variety of launches to satisfy the everlasting quench of customers to get a perfect compact SUV's which they can use for daily driving and also for an off road spin if they want to.
Enter Ford Ecosport. The muscle bound compact SUV that really changed the game for Ford in Indian market. With its revolutionary styling, exceptional ground clearance, and perfect riding dynamics instantly made the car a hit among all segments of customers. Be it young and sporty crowd, Family oriented or regular office commuters, Ecosport was accepted with a positive response and it seems it is now the benchmark for compact SUV segment.
Although the compact SUV was launched with a slight delay, but the wait was worth the while. The sheer butch looks of the car, tall and dynamic character, 200 MM of hefty ground clearance and a higher seating position all contributed to an overall excellent package. Now that the car has received a face lift, let?s focus on each and every aspect of the car.
Design : Ford has really interpreted the Indian market very well. With bold and muscular design, the 16 inches alloy wheels add all the necessary oomph to the car. Ford has also utilized each and every bit of space available to bring even more value to the customer. Commanding a length of 3999mm is an absolute indication of engineering finesse which has been used to design the car. This length gives ford an advantage in term of pricing the unit since it is under 4 meter barrier over which additional cost is accredited on cars. The addition of daytime running lights and signature guidelight have made the overall appearance of the car even more attractive and has improved on the functionality end as well.
Connectivity and Interiors : The interiors are as important as the exteriors and ford has left no page un-turned here as well. The well stitched seats provide a sense of comfort and luxury in the entire cabin which very well compliments the high seating position offered. The AC is probably the best in class and is very powerful. Not to mention the use of premium plastic along the infotainment system and dashboard which enhance the appeal of the overall interior. The Connectivity has been given a special dose of Ford Sync which is very practical and helpful. Features like emergency assist and text message reading and receiving calls is a breeze. Although the layout of the panel is upto individual preference, one can easily get accustomed to the plethora of buttons given in the central infotainment panel.
The rear seats are comfortable and are best suited for 2 adults and a child. leg space though not great but is still pretty much comfortable considering it is an under 4m car. Another brilliant feature added is the 60:40 split rear seats which can accommodate probably every type of household/personal object you want to carry. The key less entry and push button start will relieve you from the worry of fumbling keys everywhere. Additionally there are many practical spots in the car which are pretty useful such as bottle holders, glove box and fountain glass holders.
Performance : Now this is an area where ford has unleashed their horses. Ford is offering you 3 engine options to choose from. The 1.5l petrol, 1.0l Ecoboost petrol and 1.5l Diesel. And let me quote this you will find all the engines having their very own and different characteristics from one another. The 1.5l petrol engine churns out 112PS of power with an ARAI certified mileage of 15.85 Km/L. The diesel punches out 100PS of power and a fantastic torque of 205 Nm from 1750 rpm itself. But the star of the show is the acclaimed and engine of the year 1.0 litre Ecoboost engine. You will be astonished to drive it as a healthy torque of 170Nm start punching in from as low as 1400 rpm! The 5 speed gearbox ensures smooth and quick shifts and there is no lag while switching gears. Although, ford provides the engines in automatic for 15.l petrol variant, my personal preference is for the manual transmissions which puts you in the command through which you can make the most out of the engine and makes driving more enjoyable
Safety : Ecosport is not called the bestselling compact SUV for no reason. Along with the plethora of features, Safety is now one of the top priorities for Ford. The six airbags prove this point to a good extent. Further protection is offered by ABS, EBD, Traction control and ESP which ensure that you don't get nervous while braking and always feel a strong connection with the tarmac. Ford also offers hill launch assist available in automatic transmissions only. The rear parking sensors provide additional functionality while parking or reversing.
All in all, Ford is now determined to rule the growing segment of compact SUV market. The already able compact SUV after receiving the face lift has made Ecosport the most feature rich compact SUV in the segment. Also, keeping the Indian market dynamics in mind, ford has priced the SUV spot on . The range starts from Rs. 6,93,000 (Ex-Showroom) for the 1.5l petrol Ambiente MT all the way upto Rs 9,82,000 (Ex-showroom) from the 1.5l Diesel Titanium+ MT. Ford as formulated a all in one package with loads of features which is definitely bringing big smiles all over. Over the top, ford has also included prefixed service packages to tighten up the service costs. It seems that Ford has finally understood this market and will continue to dominate this segment of compact SUV.
