Renault Triber 30,000km Long Term Review: Production On Wheels For CarDekho!

This car does a lot of things behind the camera so that other cars look good on screen

Yes, you read that right. Our long-term Triber can easily be classified as a scaled-down production house. I say this with confidence because I'm the newly appointed production manager and this Triber is my workhorse. As the production manager, one of my key duties is to ensure that everything and everyone gets to the location safely and on time. And with me in this endeavor is this humble 7-seater. After five months and 5,000-odd km of driving on some friendly and other rather challenging terrains, here is what I think of the Triber.

Space-man

I am sure you have watched a lot of our YouTube videos. Ever wondered how they are shot? Our hardworking camerapersons hop into the boot to take cool dynamic shots and for that, you need room. Especially considering the generous proportions of the camerapesons themselves. Luckily, with the 3rd row removed, the Triber has it in plenty. What you are looking at is 625 litres of boot space which, in our case, is filled with camera gear, snacks for a crew as big as eight members and other production props utilities.

The room in the second row of this sub-4 metre MPV is quite amazing, thanks to the sliding seats. This experience is enhanced by the B-pillar mounted AC vents, 12-volts socket for equipment charging and reclining backrests. Be it equipment or crew, the Triber holds it safely and with room to spare.

On the go!

On the move, while driving in the city, we don't have much to complain about. The 1-litre engine mated to an AMT is a good combination for a laid-back family car but it really underperforms in our line of work. While shooting, we are required to stay close and in sync with the hero car. However, this becomes difficult with the slow shifting gears (even when in manual mode) of the Triber. Transmission aside, this engine can handle all the commuter and highway duties just fine.

Where it shines is in the ride quality. Renault has a knack for suspension tuning and has, in the past, delivered gems like the Duster. This car, fully loaded with the crew and luggage, gets you from the city to highways to remote places without breaking a sweat. The plush suspension absorbs everything that comes its way.

On the inside, the car offers all the necessary equipment to make life easier. The cooled centre console storage for example has come to the rescue many times in the peak summer days to keep the water cool. Moreover, I have used the infotainment system almost the entire time and I can tell that it is not the most mordern, but still friendly and straightforward to use. The most appreciated feature though is the distance-sensing door unlock. Even with all hands full with camera bags, just walking to the car unlocks it and I can put them straight in.

My journey in CarDekho has just begun and I am happy to have the Triber as my partner. Though the transmission makes me work a bit harder, its versatile and comfortable nature makes my job easier.
