Celerio 2014-2017 Green VXI Optional Review
Maruti Suzuki has applied all tactics on its Celerio hatchback to make it one of the best selling cars of our country. After uncurtaining this vehicle with both mill options, automated manual transmission system and additional safety features, the manufacturer has again added CNG trim to its lineup. Christened as Maruti Celerio Green VXI optional, this variant is packed with all standard features available in the running petrol VXI model, apart from including a new CNG fuel kit. The strategy behind making an appearance of this trim is to offer an enhanced mileage figure of 31.7 km/kg for the buyers. When CNG mode is activated it has a drastic impact on the power output, which decreases the power to around 9bhp and torque goes down to 12Nm when compared to the petrol model. Coil spring shock absorbers are affixed to the suspensions for added comfort. In this variant you also get dual front airbags for additional safety. Besides these, this runabout borrows exterior as well as interior design philosophy from its existing ones. Manual air conditioner, electric windows, central door locks and much more features have been added to offer a comfortable journey for its occupants. This compact hatchback is truly packed to lock horns with the likes of Ford Figo, Chevrolet Beat, Hyundai Grand i10 and Tata Zica, its biggest rivals in this segment.
Exteriors:
No updates are given on its outside as it has the same body language with smiley front fascia, including a pretty wide air intake to maintain a better balance of temperature beneath its skin. A body colored bumper is integrated with its chrome finished grille, which is available in two horizontal slats and is flanked by a pair of expressive halogen headlamps. Its rear profile looks quite good with well fitted tail lights and sporty boot lid, comprising of an embossed Suzuki emblem in the centre. A set of 165/70 tubeless radials wrapped 14 inch steel wheels are making its side profile decent with full wheel covers.
Interiors:
It has an overall wheelbase of 2425 mm, which offers increased leg space for the occupants. Its entire cabin is based on a dual tone scheme that renders a sophisticated aspect with neatly placed dashboard, three spoke steering wheel and well designed centre console. The seats as well as front door trims are dressed with the finest fabric material. Along with integrated headrests, the passengers can get a very supportive seating arrangement. There are sunvisors at the front, whereas the driver side has ticket holder and co-driver side gets a vanity mirror. Other aspects include 3 position cabin light, 5 drink holders, rear luggage shelf, 3 assist grips, floor carpet with needle punch and day night IRVM.
Engine and Performance:
Under the hood, it is machined with a 1.0-litre K10B engine that also powers other existing petrol trims. This mill has DOHC valve configuration, including a total of four cylinders and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. In complete petrol mode, it is good enough in churning out power of 67.04bhp at 6000rpm and torque of 90Nm at 3500rpm, while this model makes 58.2bhp along with 78Nm at the same rate in CNG mode. All thanks to the compressed natural gas, which makes this hatchback capable of delivering a city based fuel efficiency of 26.02 km/kg and 31.79 km/kg on the highway. Moreover, it can touch speeds up to 150 Kmph and can do 0-100 Kmph in a respectable 15.05 seconds.
Braking and Handling:
Its front wheels are paired to ventilated discs and rear ones have drum brakes. A pair of MacPherson struts is fitted to the front axle, while coupled torsion beam comes at its rear end.
Comfort features:
It incorporates an impressive list of comfy features, such as central door locks, power steering, manually adaptable outside mirrors, fuel lid opener and AC with heater. It also comes with both front and rear power windows, whereas driver's side gets automatic control function. Coming to its instrument cluster, it has Amber colored lighting with headlamp on reminder and warnings regarding low fuel and door ajar. Its information display shows the amount of fuel consumed by this vehicle, distance to empty and digital clock. Apart from these, the car includes power accessory socket, glove box outlet and silver painted dial type climate control. It can carry 235-litres of luggage inside its boot compartment that can further be increased by folding rear seat. Moreover, this small family runabout has a spacious seating capacity for 5 people.
Safety Features:
The automaker has bestowed a small, but impressive package of protective features, unifying airbags for its front passengers, high mounted stop lamp, headlight leveler, front windscreen wipers with intermittent and washer. Furthermore, it gets child safety rear door locks, immobilizer system, centrally mounted fuel tank and crash sensor.
Pros:
1. Increased fuel efficiency.
2. Quite impressive comfort features.
Cons:
1. Safety features are less.
2. Exteriors can be improved.

Compression Ratio The amount of pressure that an engine can generate in its cylinders before combustion. More compression = more power. | 11.0:1 |
Turbo Charger A device that forces more air into an internal combustion engine. More air can burn more fuel and make more power. Turbochargers utilise exhaust gas energy to make more power. | No |
Super Charge A device that forces more air into an internal combustion engine. More air can burn more fuel and make more power. Superchargers utilise engine power to make more power. | No |
Transmission Type | Manual |
Gear Box The component containing a set of gears that supply power from the engine to the wheels. It affects speed and fuel efficiency. | 5 Speed |
