Grand i10 2013-2016 SportZ Edition Review

Hyundai Grand i10 SportZ Edition is the latest entrant in this model series, which is introduced to celebrate this hatchback's first anniversary. It is launched with a few added features in terms of exteriors as well as interiors. This hatch has a sporty outer appearance and is equipped with a lot of remarkable aspects. It is fitted with a stylish set of 14 inch diamond cut alloy wheels that are covered with tubeless tyres. The side profile is now designed with attractive body graphics that gives it a trendy look. Moreover, the company has also added a rear spoiler and B-pillars to this new trim. Its interiors are quite appealing with premium fabric upholstered seats that have red inserts. The steering wheel is wrapped with leather upholstery and is mounted with audio as well as Bluetooth controls. Other standard aspects in the cabin include a passenger vanity mirror, multi information display, front room lamp and a neatly designed dashboard with several equipments on it. On the safety front, it is loaded with a lot of aspects that includes immobilizer, central locking and front fog lamps. In terms of technical specifications, it is incorporated with a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine that displaces 1197cc. It is based on a DOHC valve configuration and paired with a five speed manual transmission gear box. Its braking system is quite reliable and it also has a proficient suspension mechanism.


Exteriors:


This new variant has a stylish design and its robust body structure is fitted with a number of striking aspects. To start with the front facade, it has a wide windscreen that is equipped with a couple of intermittent wipers. Its sleek bonnet is slanting towards the radiator grille that is treated with chrome. This grille is engraved with a prominent logo of the company in the center . It is flanked by a wraparound headlight cluster that is integrated with clear lens headlamps. The bumper is in body color and is fitted with a wide air dam that allow better air intake and cools the engine quickly. It is further surrounded by a couple of fog lamps that enhances the visibility ahead. The side profile looks quite attractive and includes aspects like chrome door handles and body colored outside rear view mirrors. These are electrically adjustable and integrated with side turn indicators. It has neatly carved wheel arches which are fitted with a sporty set of 14 inch diamond cut alloy wheels. These are covered with tubeless radial tyres that provide a strong grip on any road. Other aspects include B-pillars, side molding and eye catching body graphics that adds distinctness to its appearance. The rear end comes with a rear spoiler and has a wide windshield that has a pair of intermittent wipers with a washer. The boot lid is large and has the company's emblem engraved on it. It has a well designed tail light cluster and a body colored bumper as well.


Interiors:


The internal section of this Hyundai Grand i10 SportZ Edition trim is designed with dual tone color scheme. It is incorporated with well cushioned seats, which are covered with premium cloth upholstery. The red finished dashboard is equipped with AC vents, an instrument cluster, a glove box and a leather wrapped steering wheel. The multi-information display houses a digital tachometer, gear shift indicator, door and tail gate ajar warning, a low fuel warning light, dual trip meter, engine running time and many other notifications to keep driver updated. It has metal finished inside door handles, gear shift knob and blue interior illumination that gives the cabin a decent appearance.


Engine and Performance:


This particular trim is powered by a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine, which comes with a dual VTVT (variable timing valve train) technology. It has the ability to displace 1197cc and can churn out a maximum power of 81.86bhp at 6000rpm in combination with 113.75Nm at 4000rpm . This DOHC based power plant is integrated with four cylinders and sixteen valves. It is coupled with a five speed manual transmission gear box, which powers the engine to zoom towards a top speed of approximately 150 Kmph. At the same time, it can cross the speed barrier of 100 Kmph in close to 15 seconds from a standstill. With the help of a multi point fuel injection supply system, it has the capacity to generate 18.9 Kmpl on the highways and 15.9 Kmpl in the city traffic conditions.


Braking and Handling:


The front axle is assembled with a McPherson strut, while rear is fitted with coupled torsion beam axle type of mechanism. This suspension system is further accompanied by gas filled shock absorbers . Meanwhile, the front wheels are fitted with a set of disc brakes, while rear ones have drum brakes as well. It has an electric power assisted steering system, which is quite responsive and makes handling effortless. This tilt adjustable steering wheel supports a minimum turning radius of 4.8 meters.


Comfort Features:


This variant has an advanced music system, which supports CD/MP3 player, radio with AM/FM tuner, USB interface, Aux-in port along with Bluetooth connectivity. The leather wrapped steering wheel is mounted with audio and call control buttons. It has a manual air conditioning unit with heater and rear AC vents that maintains the cabin air. The motor driven power steering system is tilt adjustable and makes handling quite convenient. It has a 12V power socket in center console for charging mobiles and other electronic devices. Apart from these, it also has push start/stop button, a large glove box with cooling effect, battery saver, sun visors with passenger side vanity mirror and all four power windows with driver side auto down function. It has a spacious boot compartment, which can be increased by folding rear seat. It also has rear parcel shelf and boot lamp for easy access.
