Figo 2015-2019 1.5D Base MT Review
Ford is among the preferred brands in the Indian car market, and the company has launched a long awaited vehicle, the Figo hatchback. This is one among the stream of releases that has kept this company on top. This model has a signature design language that also sets it apart from the mainstream releases of the market. Among the variants, one is the Ford Figo 1.5D Base MT . This is an entry level version, and it comes with a limited range of features. Despite this, the car has numerous interesting elements inside and out. Starting with the interior, the cabin exudes an aura of elegance and tranquility. A range of comfort and convenience facilities ensure that the passengers' ride is relaxed and strain free. Storage areas are present for utility purpose, along with headrests, seat adjustment facility, interior illumination, and many other vital features. Strong seatbelts strap the passengers in, allowing peace of mind in addition to luxury. The car's body reflects a blend of aerodynamic proficiency as well as modern style. The headlamps are graced with a chrome bezel, and the wide grille creates an imposing effect. The stylish wheel rims, the fluidic body curves and the signature lines all paint a picture of daring sportiness. Coming to the heavier facet, the car is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine. The engine is matched with an efficient gearbox consisting of five gears, giving the driver the benefit of smoother shifting for better performance. Going along with this is a reliable braking system, which keeps the vehicle under the guard of control always.
Exteriors:
Its design is rooted in strong aerodynamics. Its low and streamlined structure facilitates better performance, and at the same time, makes for a stunning look. Starting with the front, there is a wide grille with black bars, and a black surround adds to the effect. Flanking this are sleek headlamp clusters, and the brand has incorporated them with a leveling device for improved visibility. The body colored bumper renders a more harmonious effect to the front facet. At the bottom, the wide air intake section files as a boost to the look, while at the same time, helping to keep the engine cool. The wide bonnet is graced with slender lines, giving a more attractive effect. The sloping back windshield blends with the car's streamlined profile, and it decreases air resistance when driving. Coming to the side profile, the slender shape of hatchback adds a marvelous touch to its image. There are black colored door handles, and the driver's side mirror is also black, making for a matching look. A sweeping body line at the bottom gives a more energetic feel. The subtle curvature around the wheel archs look great, and below them, the well designed wheel rims add a compelling note to it. The overall shape of the car is rendered more precise with a husky rear portion. The tail lights come with intricate detailing, allowing maximum safety when driving. The tailgate is shaped in a clever format, adding to the distinguished look of the car.
Interiors:
The interior design is founded in strong ergonomics, ensuring a homely environment for the occupants. The cabin space makes for an image of elegance, with the seats, dashboard, steering wheel, door-sides and center console interacting in perfect harmony. The comfort of the seating arrangement is enhanced with fabric upholstery, which adds a more soothing touch to the passengers' experience. The single tone Charcoal Black environment further hones the pleasant drive atmosphere. The sporty steering wheel comes with buttons mounted on it for ease of usage. The dashboard, instrument panel and other areas are designed with a picture of sophistication. The air conditioning vents are positioned strategically, ensuring good circulation within the space. There are headrests for the front row, and they come with an adjustable facility for maximum user convenience. The parking brake has a black lever tip, giving a more distinctive feel for the driver.
Engine and Performance:
Powering the vehicle is a 1.5-litre TDCi engine, which displaces 1498cc. This oil burner has a compression ratio of 16:1. It gives out a power of 73bhp at 3750rpm, coupled with a torque of 215Nm at 1750rpm to 3000rpm. To provide an efficient channel for the engine's power, there is a 5 speed manual gearbox.
Braking and Handling:
The machine is put together with due quality for all facets. The company has equipped its braking and chassis arrangements with the necessary mechanisms to ensure a controlled and safe drive. Starting with the braking section, discs brakes arm the front wheels, and drums are present at the rear. The front axle of the chassis is secured with a McPherson strut that comes along with a coil spring and an anti roll bar. Meanwhile, the rear axle is supported with a semi independent twist beam, while twin gas and oil filled shock absorbers further promote drive stability.
Comfort Features:
This variant suffers lack of stereo unit, but the car maker has equipped it with substantial comfort functions to make up for this downside. Firstly, the manual air conditioning ensures that the drive atmosphere is kept pleasant and enjoyable always. A front dome lamp offers illumination during gloomy conditions. The tilt steering facility enables a more relaxed experience for the driver, while at the same time strengthening the car's control and handling. There are 6 speed variable intermittent wipers for the front window, ensuring no damage to the visibility during wet conditions. The rear seats come with a 100% fold flat design, giving the occupants the added benefit of enjoyable extra space.
Safety Features:
The variant has a limited range of safety functions. There are powerful headlamps featuring leveling device for added safety. An airbag for the driver ensures that the man behind the wheel is shielded in case of a sudden halt or a mishap. 3 point seatbelts are present for both rows, keeping the occupants well restrained through the drive. Beside all of this, an engine immobilizer guards the vehicle as well, preventing theft or unrestricted access. Tubeless radials provide a firm grounding for the car when driving, decreasing chances of mishaps. Finally, the electric power assisted steering system sets the car's stability on a new level, keeping the passengers within safe always.
Pros:
1. The engine gives good performance among the variants.
2. Its exterior format is rather attractive.
Cons:
1. Its safety needs to be enforced with more features.
2. Being a base variant, it lacks too many features for the cabin.
