Endeavour 2015-2020 2.2 Trend MT 4X4 Review

Introduction:

Just a few days ahead of the 2016 Auto Expo, Ford India has launched the all new Endeavour in three trim levels. Among these, Ford Endeavour 2.2 Trend MT 4X4 is a mid range diesel variant that comes with a price tag of Rs. 26 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). This latest edition is based on the Ford's new T6 platform and looks much better than before. And this rivals with other popular models in this segment like Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Trailblazer and Hyundai Santa Fe as well. Let us now discuss about all the features in detail and see what it has to offer us.

Pros:

1. Its higher ground clearance dimension is perfect for off-roading.

2. Availability of crucial safety attributes such as the ABS and dual front airbags to name a few.

Cons:

1. Its not-so-impressive highway mileage figures might leave you a bit disappointed.

2. Presence of more comfort features would have been an advantage.

Standout feature:

1. This 4WD type based variant gets the Terrain Management system that helps in dealing with any kind of surface besides staying in control.

2. The infotainment system with SYNC 2 voice activation function allows you to stay connected even when you drive.

Overview:

The all new Ford Endeavour is back again in the market with some updates that were missing in the outgoing model. What sits under the hood of this mid range variant is a 2.2-litre oil burner that comes with a turbo diesel common rail direct injection system. This one, with 2198cc displacement capacity, delivers good power and torque outputs however, the low fuel economy numbers are somewhat disappointing. Based on a new platform, this utility vehicle is huge yet stylish unlike its predecessor that was in a boxy design. We would here, like to give a special mention to the way its interiors are designed. Right from high quality materials to the decent color scheme, everything will make the drive a pleasurable experience. Some of the key features present inside include a tilt adjustable steering wheel, automatic climate control, multi information display and a few storage spaces as well. Besides, its handling characteristics are fine, whereas the level of protection in this trim is also good considering the important features it comes with.

Exterior:

This big machine is not as long as the outgoing model, yet it definitely has generous exterior dimensions with its overall length, width and height measuring 4892mm, 1860mm and 1837mm respectively. The wheelbase of 2850mm is excellent thus, indicating to ample space inside, whereas its 225mm ground clearance is better than the Santa Fe and Fortuner. Compared to the old boxy shaped Endeavour, this 2016 version has definitely evolved on the design front. What's new about this machine is its latest design language, and style elements that makes it one of the good looking SUVs in the segment. A few elements that highlight its front facade in particular are the chrome plated radiator grille, and a couple of headlamps that brightens up your way ahead. On the sides, it is certainly the 18 inch, modish alloy wheels that will catch your attention. These come adorned with high performance tubeless tyres bearing the size 265/60 R18. Meanwhile, the handles and outer mirrors get body color, while the later further comes fitted with side turn indicators. Its rear end also looks stylish with a thick chrome strip that connects the tail lamps and a well sculpted bumper that gets a skid plate as well.

Interior:

The interiors of Ford Endeavour 2.2 Trend MT 4X4 are revised and elegant. In this machine, you will see the well cushioned seats are incorporated in three rows. Ample space is available inside, and even the tall passengers may not feel congested because of its good head room dimension. Once inside, you can notice and feel the finesse of its leather seat upholstery. Also, the steering wheel and gear knob gets the fine leather wrapping. The eight way power adjustable driver's seat is an advantage as it allows you to adjust your position according to the driving needs. Also, you have the option of folding its rear seats to bring in the extra stuff. What adds to the entertainment quotient is the audio unit with TFT touchscreen display that gets great speakers thus, leaving you with the best listening experience. Also, it comes with the SYNC 2 voice activation function and supports Bluetooth connectivity as well. Other comfort giving features in this trim include the dual zone air conditioner with automatic climate control, rear view camera with display on center screen, steering mounted with audio switches, rear AC vents, power foldable outside mirrors, remote keyless entry as well as power windows that adds to your convenience.

Performance:

This four wheel drive based variant incorporates a 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine that has a displacement capacity of 2198cc. It is a four cylinder motor that comes mated with a 6-speed manual transmission gear box that distributes power to all its wheels. The maximum power it can belt out is 157.7bhp at 3200rpm and at the same time, it develops torque output of 385Nm between 1600 to 2500rpm. One of the disappointing points is its low mileage, which comes to around 13.5 Kmpl on the highways and drops down to about 10.2 Kmpl when you drive in the city limits.

Ride & Handling:

This SUV is offered with an efficient suspension system wherein, its front axle gets an independent coil spring with anti roll bar, while the rear one is assembled with watts linkage type of system. This delivers a smooth ride besides keeping you safe from the irregularities of roads. Its braking mechanism is quite reliable with all its four wheels featuring robust disc brakes. Moreover, the advanced systems like ABS and EBD improves its braking performance further. On the other hand, this variant also comes with the Terrain Management System that lets you to drive effortlessly through any terrain by switching onto four different modes. In addition to this, it is bestowed with a power assisted steering column that gives precise response and aids in easy manoeuvrability.

Safety:

The automaker has packed in some significant security elements in this mid range trim that makes for a peaceful drive. It gets parking sensors in the rear and a central locking system as well. There are airbags available for driver and co-passenger that prevent the risk of injury in case of an accident. It has some advanced assistance systems such as the electronic stability program, traction control system, hill launch assist and hill descent control that ensures firm grip and control even at high speeds and during bends. Apart from these, aspects like emergency assistance, ABS with EBD, seatbelt pretensioner and engine immobilizer further add to the safety quotient.

Verdict:

Looking at the details mentioned above, we can say that it definitely lags behind the competition particularly in terms of mileage and comfort features. But you can still prefer this variant of Endeavour as it promises excellent performance without compromising with passenger security.
