Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler expert overview
Overview
The pickup truck market in India is one that doesn’t have a lot of takers, and hence, a very few options to choose from One of the reasons for the little to no interest is also the price spectrum that a lot of these vehicles operate at, making them inaccessible for many people. That can however change as Mahindra has taken the wraps off its Scorpio N-based pickup truck, which has been christened the Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler.
Only the exterior of the vehicle has been revealed, and the carmaker has given a glimpse of the interior via a handful of design sketches. This won’t be the first time that the Indian carmaker has had a pickup truck in its stable. The Scorpio Getaway was sold back in the early 2010s, right until the late 2020s. This one continues the tradition, and here’s what it looks like:
Exterior
Despite being based on the Scorpio N, the new 2026 Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler pickup truck gets a host of different design elements to set it apart from its SUV sibling.
The nose has similar butch characteristics that we usually associate with the Scorpio nameplate, but the detailing is different. The LED headlights are in a rectangular shape, but are slimmer and come with new LED DRLs and projector elements within. The massive grille houses the new Mahindra logo in the middle, while the chunky bumper with aggressive housing that houses the dual-pod fog lamps adds to the ruggedness.
In the profile, you notice the double cab design, meaning you get rear seats too, with dedicated doors. The proportions are a lot more dialed down than what we had seen in the concept. Sure, there’s no dearth of cladding, and the large 12-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels also add to that aspect, but hardcore stuff like the snorkel has not made it to the production model. There is a side step, however, for easier ingress and egress.
At the rear, there is a large ‘Mahindra’ engraving that dominates the flat tailgate. Just like most pickup trucks, the tail lights are placed on the edge and have a standing rectangular shape with some sleek LED elements. The chunky rear bumper rounds off the overall look
Interior
Mahindra had blacked out the interior of the production-spec Scorpio Lifestyler. However, based on design sketches shown at the event, the interior of the 2026 Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler pickup truck is completely different from its SUV sibling. And the good news is it looks thoroughly modern and premium, unlike most other pickup cabins, which focus on utilitarianism.
The main highlight is the vertical infotainment system, the fitment of which is very similar to what we’ve seen in the MG Hector, and is first in Mahindra’s product lineup. That said, while the AC controls are also integrated into the screen, there are physical AC controls to operate it, and they are appreciated, considering they make it easy to use. Further down, the central console looks chunky with a host of illuminated buttons and a conventional gear lever.
On the driver's side, you now get a brand-new steering design with chunky physical controls and contrasting spokes. Behind that, the driver also gets a large floating digital driver’s display. Overall, this is one of the best interior designs from Mahindra till date, blending modernity and chunky elements very well.
Features
The Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler is equipped with dual digital screens, which include a portrait-oriented infotainment touchscreen system and a digital driver’s display. It also comes with dual-zone climate control.
We also expect Mahindra to offer all modern day features like a premium branded sound system, powered front seats with ventilation, a wireless phone charger, and push-button start with keyless entry. The lifestyle pickup truck will for sure feel more family-friendly.
Safety
Considering that this is a Mahindra, we expect no stone to be left unturned in this department. The Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electronic parking brake (EPB), hill-hold control, electronic stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a 540-degree camera should be part of the package.
Performance
A pickup truck has to be diesel for sheer torque at low speeds to pull and haul equipment, and so Mahindra could offer it with a 2.2-litre diesel engine that also does duties in other Mahindra SUVs like the Scorpio N itself. It is expected to be paired with the option of a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. Of course, a proper four-wheel drive is on offer with various terrain modes on offer.
The exact state of tune hasn’t been confirmed by the carmaker, and could vary with respect to the Scorpio N or other of its siblings.
Verdict
Mahindra’s pickup truck has the potential to make pickup trucks a common sight in India. The category has always struggled in the country due to its lifestyle-nature, but part of it was also a fault of the options that were available to it. Mahindra has already proven with the Thar that people in India have an appetite for lifestyle vehicles, which aren’t necessarily all that practical. But this will only work if Mahindra prices it competitively, which will be announced in April 2027. The ball’s in Mahindra’s court.
