Skoda Rapid is basically a rebadged Volkswagen Vento, the car gets the same 1.6-litre MPI petrol and 1.5-litre TDI diesel motors. The Diesel Skoda Rapid’s 1.5 litre TDi unit that develops a maximum power output of 103bhp @ 4400 rpm with a peak torque of 250 Nm @1500-2500 rpm on it while the the 1.6 litre MPI unit makes 105bhp of power @ 5250 rpm but produces different torque of 153 Nm @ 3800 rpm on tap. Though the motors have been taken from Volkswagen Vento but Skoda engineers find a better state of the tuning than the former, the power comes in a better way. The diesel, which is torquier, is also the quicker between the two, the power starts earlier and gets stronger in the mid ranges and you will also like the crispy high ranges. On the other hand, the petrol engine has also been tuned quite well, it is responsive and refined, however it don’t feel revv free than the Japanese motors. The diesel engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, while the petrol engine comes with a choice of two differen transmissions; a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.
