Renault has been an innovator since its inception. Much like present day tech enthusiasts building websites, Renault is the result of sheer passion of the Frenchman Louis Renault which led the family interest into a global player. Being the innovator of Direct Drive, Renault as a company, has produced many marvels which constantly left the automobile industry awestruck. The saga continued over the years where irrespective of the model, the design ethics and performance promises stayed intact. Going through some rough phases in terms of production due to international crisis, Renault stood against time by evolving itself repeatedly and rising from its ashes like a phoenix. Even during the beginning of the racing era, where major automobile makers competed against each other on race track proving their individual worth, Renault enjoyed a successful period. Two of its founders participating in these races is a clear indication of the belief that Renault cars and the company as a whole was built on. Renault proved to carry on the French appreciation for art with its design and logo which remain to be reminiscent of the glory, French theatre and art brought to the world. The latest addition to Renault’s ‘art’ is the Renault Scala which is launched as an affordable luxury vehicle following its ubiquitous Renault Duster, which turned out to be a great success in the Indian automobile market.
The Renault Scala is available in six variants in both diesel and petrol engines to suit the needs of customers, who can choose between performance and mileage. The new advert shows the Renault cars’ spirit which drives people crazy and inspires them to do anything to get a chance to be in them. The way thirst for excellence is shown in the naiveness of children makes the advertisement reflect the way even adults turn curious about the amazing masterpiece by French, Renault SAS.
The all new Renault Scala from the stables of French auto major which was introduced in the year 2012 can be termed as a rebadged version of Nissan Sunny. Renault and Nissan has been in alliance since 1999 and since then have shared vehicle platforms to save on economy. With Scala, Renault has done their best and have improved upon the looks and made it more stylized than Sunny with large, aggressive grille, stylish headlights and new alloy wheels along with the massive legroom space of the rear end. The rear end of the vehicle features a blacked-out section that mimics a diffuser, which helps reduce the car's visual bulk. If you glance at the Renault Scala from the side parameters the vehicle looks exactly like Sunny but when you look at the vehicle in overall terms it is well balanced and proportionate that its cousin Sunny from the stables of Nissan. Scala comes loaded with the 1.5-litre dCi motor and the 1.5-litre petrol. Half-throttle responses are good and once past the initial turbo-lag, the engine feels quite responsive. The car feels best in the mid-range and you have adequate passing power on tap. However, on an open highway you will feel a slight shortage of power and find yourself constantly shifting gears to keep the motor on the boil. And, with power tapering off as early as 3800rpm, it's best to use the gears and keep the engine in the mid-range.The interiors are exactly the same as the Sunny’s and the oval and rounded theme is carried over. You get a round cluster of buttons on the central console, round vents and a round steering boss. The boot too is fairly generous and the seats fold down, but there’s no split.Renault Scala is fraught up with features and one gets keyless-go, climate control and electric folding mirrors. The top-of-the-line diesel model is rendered with nice leather seats. The interior quality isn’t brilliant but it’s good enough for the class.

The sedan is powered with 1.5L dCi and 2.0L petrol engine; the diesel engine seen under the hoods of Fluence also does duty in Nissan’s hatchback Micra which was tweaked to fulfill the power requirements of a sedan. The 1.5L K9K diesel engine generates 108.5bhp peak power @ 4000rpm and the 1997cc automatic petrol engine is good to generate 131.5bhp @ 6000rpm.
