Toyota Etios, the upcoming compact hatchback from Toyota India, has started buzzing the company's Bangalore office, as it is gearing-up for the launch of this car in India, which is scheduled to take place in Dec this year.

The firm will source 75% of the Etios’ parts locally and the entire output of 70,000 units in 2011 will be sold here, said, Shekar Viswanathan, Toyota Kirloskar’s deputy managing director (commercial). The company is progressing rapidly on its second factory in India, at Bidadi, on which company is investing Rs 3,200 crore. The second shift is adjacent to Toyota’s first factory in India and expected to start working from December this year.

The company has hired around 350 workers at the new plant, and the number of the workers will be increased to around 1,650, once the work at new plant will be initiated. With this, around 70 workers from Japan’s Toyota Motor Corp. have landed in Bangalore and are training shop floor workers, so that the production processes and equipment handling to get them ready for the new plant.

The Etios was showcased at the Delhi International Auto-Show, held in January, where it attracted a large number of visitors and car enthusiasts. The Etios will be the only model in the compact car segment from Toyota, that will compete with popular cars in India of this segment like Maruti Swift, Ford Figo, Volkswagen Polo, Chevrolet Beat, Fiat Punto, Hyundai i10 and upcoming Nissan Micra.
