Maruti Suzuki retails 1,00,925 units in May 2014

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has retailed a total of 1,00,925 units in May 2014. In the domestic market, India's leader in passengers car segment sold 90,560 units whereas it shipped 10,365 vehicles in the month of May. Last year for the same time period, Maruti wholesaled a total of 84,677 units out of which 77,821 units were sold and 6,856 vehicles were exported.

In the small car segment which includes Maruti 800, Alto A-Star, WagonR, the manufacturer retailed a total of 29,068 units in May 2014 as compared to 31,427 vehicles in the May 2013, thereby registering a fall of 7.5%. Moreover, the good news comes from the compact segment including Swift, Estilo, Ritz and Celerio as the carmaker sold 26,394 up against 17,147 units in May last year -a growth of 53.9%.  In the compact sedan segment, Maruti Suzuki rolled out 18,953 units of Swift Dzire while in 2013, the automaker sold 17,265 units, witnessing a growth of 9.8%. However, the company only managed to sell 121 units of SX4 - indicating the requirement of a facelift.

Maruti Escapade

In the Utility Vehicles segment, the manufacturer sold 5,253 units comprising of Gypsy, Ertiga and Grand Vitara. The company registered a growth of 22% as last year the carmaker managed to retail 4,307 units. Moreover, in Van segment Omni and Eeco stood at 10,771 units, up by 50.2% as the company sold 7,172 units in May 2013.

Maruti Celerio

Recently, Maruti Suzuki also launched the CNG variant of Celerio at a price tag of Rs 4,68,517 (Ex-showroom, Delhi). This eco-friendly model is only available in VXI trim. The company is calling its CNG models as Celerio Green. Mechanically, the car houses 1.0-litre KNext engine churning a maximum power of 67bhp while when switched to CNG mode, the engine musters a power of 57bhp. The hatch is offered with five-speed manual transmission - no AMT. The ongoing petrol variants of Celerio are getting overwhelming response from the buyers as the waiting period has already jumped to six to eight months. AMTs demand is more as it offers an ease in driving along with exceptional fuel economy figures of 23.1kmpl.

The company is also planning to launch its new saloon Maruti Suzuki Ciaz around this festive season. The car was first unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo and will lock horns with the segment leader Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Skoda Rapid.
