Hindustan Motors to launch Outlander diesel by early 2014

Japanese automaker Mitsubishi that discontinued all of its sedans in India a couple of months back due to their poor sales performance, is now focussing only on SUVs. Their current line-up consists of Pajero Sport and Montero, and soon we will see the relaunch of the company's flagship SUV Outlander, which was phased out last year. The reason behind the discontinuation of the Outlander was the unavailability of the diesel version, while most of its competitors were in diesel trim.

Now a report published in the Financial Express claims that Hindustan Motors will launch the Mitsubishi Outlander in diesel avatar early next year. Other than the introduction of diesel trim, the outlander will have several new features. Mitsubishi also launched the Pajero Sport anniversary edition last month.

Speaking about the company's future plans and line-up, P Vijayan, COO, Hindustan Motors said, “The company is working on the new model of the diesel version and will launch it in early 2014. It will be a more rejuvenated model and will be placed in the UV 4 segment (premium). As Mitsubishi's partner in India, we want to focus only on the utility vehicle segment and one can see more variants/models of Mitsubishi Pajero and Outlander going forward in India.”

With the launch of Mitsubishi Outlander, the company will be targeting corporate professionals, celebrities and other urban professionals, as the Outlander will be more of a soft-roader. This is all what we have for now, stay tuned to CarDekho for all the latest updates on the same.
