Chevrolet Beat, Spark to be affixed with the new Smart-Tech Engine

The all exclusive Chevrolet Beat aka Chevrolet Spark has been performing exceptionally well in the Indian hatchback segment. And now its time the stand out model becomes more vibrant with the use of high technology Smart Tech engine from the company. The manufacturing of this high performance engine is done by General Motors, the American Auto major. The production of Smart Tech engine will be carried in the hub Talegaon plant of General Motors situated near Pune. As per the claims made by the American majors, the new engine is moulded according to the needs of Indian users.

The company is known for building high end technology engines and the tradition is followed with Smart Tech engine as well. The fuel economy has been improved largely by bringing it to 18.6 kmpl as against the existing figures of 15.7kmpl. The other specification which include torque and power have been kept same as the existing model.

Many advanced features are imbibed in the model like Inverted tooth timing chain design which makes the operation of engine silent. The weight is reduced prominently with the Aluminium alloy engine head and lighter Pistons which are coated with anti-friction material for smooth operations. The weight of engine is reduced prominently even with the lighter fractured type connecting rod and Stainless steel core plugs.

The powerful engine is loaded with 16 valves and works on DOHC technology. The engine will produce 80.5PS of maximum power and peak torque of 108Nm. The fuel economy is improved with the vacuum activated Port deactivation which improves low-end torque thus giving better efficiency in city drive.

Addressing the launch of this new engine, Lee commented that Indian Auto market is an important destination for the company and they are trying their best to bring high technology powertrains here with high localised content. He also said that the new engine is based on rigorous R&D efforts taken by the company along with thorough testing.
