Crysta - miles ahead of competition and long way from Innova

Requirement: Diesel, preferably automatic, family car. Cars evaluated: Hyundai Tucson, Verna, Creta, Tata Hexa, Honda BRV, Skoda Rapid, Merc GLA, Jeep Compass, XUV 500, Maruti Ertiga, Toyota Crysta, Renault Duster, Lodgy, Captur, Nissan Terrano. Pros: Very aesthetic interiors, fit and finish, powerful engine, peak torque kicks in quite early at 1200-1500rpm leaving no noticeable turbo lag at lower speeds, good ground clearance of 170mm, AT ideal for city traffic giving a mileage of 13-14kmpl with AC. NVH insulation quite good. At cruising speeds, vehicle stability is excellent, ride quality is good despite body on frame construction, body roll is very well contained in comparison to other SUVs or earlier Innova itself. Exteriors also look premium with a SUV type stance especially noticeable from the rear - paradigm shift away from the mundane looks of the older Innova. Easy to drive in the city. One can buy GX AT (20lakhs on-road) and furnish it with accessories of choice to make it better looking than top end ZX AT model. (29lakhs on-road), for a fraction of the price difference. Sales, Service Safety and Quality is top notch. One can never dream of experiencing this level of service or integrity with Tata / M&M / Skoda. Cons: Monocoque chassis would have improved the ride quality which is better on XUV500. However, I have given up hope that the rest of XUV's interiors will ever meet Indian consumer's aspirations. Expanded wheel arches to accommodate true 17" or 18" radials would have improved road handling and given a SUV-feel to the Crysta with higher ground clearance. Toyota could have tried using an innovative 2.2 ltr turbo-charged engine that produces the same power and torque instead of 2.8 ltr for the AT, for better mileage and lower emissions. It's a shame that Hyundai specializes in overpricing all their vehicles. Creta at 19lakhs, Tucson at 32lakhs!!! With features that are an overkill for the product and become mostly symbolic rather than useful.
