When you buy a Honda, the one thing you'd be proud to tell the world is the already accepted fact- amazing engine quality & efficiency. With the City, comes an added assurance of peace of mind thanks to its proven track record. The sedan launched back in the late 90s, continues to astonish with its impeccable performance. The 2016 4TH Generation Honda City was largely a unanimous choice for me personally when we decided to buy a sedan. The rest of the family looked at options from competitors like the Verna, Ciaz & Vento but what sealed the deal was the assurance of a Honda Engine. Powered by a 1.5 Litre i-VTEC Engine offering 5 speed manual transmission, the Honda bellwether offers great power and comfort not just on the highways but proves to be a winner inside the city as well. The latest generation City, thanks to the H-design philosophy comes with 165mm of ground clearance to ensure there are no hassles on the potholed roads we’re so used to, or even in some cases the absence of roads. With a boot of 503 litres, a family of 4 can easily plan a vacation without any shortage of luggage space. The interiors have been spruced up to look very premium and upmarket. It comes with a touch panel climate control console, along with an integrated audio system that are great companions on the long highway drives. The cabin is very spacious and the rear ac vents add to a comfortable drive even for those at the back seats. The beige interiors add to the rich feel and look of the City. Coming to the drive, it feels amazing to drive on the highways; stability and control even at 140-160km/hr range is very good. Took the car on the Bangalore-Pune highway and it was a very pleasant journey with no hassles; Braking at high speeds was not a problem and gear changes were very smooth. Having driven the diesel City a few months back, I must confess I did feel a little sad considering the difference in torque and power in the Petrol version; The mileage in the City is around 14.7kmpl while in the highways it did manage to touch 17.2kmpl The overall look and new design, especially at the back are very attractive. Since no car can match up to all the expectations, here are a few cons of the City: I really wish the boot had a lid cover, which would have enhanced the look. At a premium price such as this, I wished there were atleast 4 airbags if not the expected 6 which is a norm in cars abroad, which would have greatly added VFM. The bottom half of the dashboard has a very plasticy feel which is quite disappointing. We went for the Urban Titanium colour considering suggestions that it fades less compared to the other non-metallic options. Considering the City manages to sell close to 9k cars a quarter, this is one of the best options in the mid segment currently. Wish Honda comes up with a more powerful version for enthusiasts across India who swear by the Honda brand. .
