Indica eV2 eL Review
Tata Motors is a well-known name in the Indian car industry. It has gained its reputation through many cars here, amongst which Tata Safari SUV is the prominent one. Now the car maker has launched the new Tata Indica eV2 into the market. The refreshed Tata Indica eV2 eL has been rolled out in 12 variants and the eV2 L diesel is the base diesel variant in the list. This one comes with a CR4 diesel engine that abides by the BS IV norms and has the capability to churn out maximum power and torque of 68.5bhp and 140Nm respectively. The same five-speed manual gearbox has been fixed to make the driving experience much more memorable for the driver. But the major highlight here is the fuel efficiency. The car has become the most fuel efficient car in India by delivering a whopping mileage of 25kmpl. The exteriors of the car have been restyled and the new bumper and grille provide the car with a much smarter and elegant look than before. On the inside, the interiors have fine ambiance along with numerous advanced features like fixed lumbar support for the front seats tachometer, remote fuel lid and boot opener, high mounted stop lamp and beige interiors to keep the interiors look more airy and spacious. However the base variant here misses out in basic features like power windows, power steering and air conditioner.
Exteriors
Tata Motors has spin its wand and made the new Tata Indica eV2 L BSIV appear to be more exciting and appealing as compared to the older model. The car manufacturer has reworked almost every angle and made the car appear to be much better. Starting with front end, you would notice the attractive and restyled headlamps accompanied by chrome finished grille and a new stylish bumper. The bonnet is smooth and nicely shaped. The side profile has non colored body handles and ORVMs and well-pronounced wheel arches. Finally coming to the rear end of the Tata Indica eV2 L BSIV, the car comes with body colored rear bumper, high mounted stop lamp and well-designed tail lights enhancing the overall looks of this compact car.
Interiors
The interiors of the new Tata Indica EV2 L BSIV are refreshed and restyled. The beige interiors make sure that the car gets a very airy and elegant ambiance. the front door has the storage space for the magazine, while the front cabin light with spot lights add on to the feel of the car. The seats are upholstered with vinyl material, which is of high quality and turn the seats into something more comfortable and relaxing. The dashboard is also very neatly done and the steering wheel is positioned at the right angle for the convenience of the driver.
Comfort features
The new Tata Indica EV2 L BSIV variant is a comfortable compact car for a small family. The seats are comfortable and relaxing, while the placement of tachoTata Indica eV2 eL meter, steering wheel, and gearbox is done keeping in mind the convenience of the driver. The fixed lumbar support for the front seats is ideal. However on a sad note, this one does fail on the advanced features section. The car doesn’t feature basic requirements like power steering wheel, power windows and most importantly air conditioning system. But, it does have remote fuel lid and boot opener along with cup holder for the front. This makes the new Tata Indica eV2 eL decent when it comes to the soothing and convenience section of the car.
Engine and Performance
Tata Motors has done the engine department of the new Tata Indica eV2 L BSIV with all heart and soul. The car maker has worked hard and gave the car an honor to become India’s most fuel efficient car. Under the bonnet, the CR4 diesel engine BSIV is very fuel economic and powerful . The engine has the power and strength to give out peak 70PS of power output at the rate of 4000rpm and also produces high torque of 140Nm at the rate of 1800 to 3000rpm. This engine has been united with a smart and smooth functioning five-speed manual gearbox that pushes this car to give out a mesmerizing fuel efficiency of 25kmpl. This mileage makes Tata Indica eV2 the most fuel efficient car available in India today. On the other hand, when on road, the car is not a letdown and manages to perform very well. The car has a nice top speed and takes few seconds in going from o to 100kmph speed mark .
Braking and handling
The 2012 Tata Indica eV2 L BSIV is blessed with a very strong and sophisticated braking system that keeps the car passengers safe and provides complete control to the driver. The car has disc brakes for the front and the drum brakes for the rear that combine and become a very strong and responsive braking system. The handling of this one is enhanced by the presence of a pleasing and butter-smooth suspension system, which has the high ability to wolf down all the rough and patchy potholes on the Indian topography. However, it doesn’t have power steering wheel, but the normal one is capable of making the ride and handling of the new Tata Indica eV2 eL perfectly fine and up-to-the mark.
Safety features
Coming to the safety department, Tata Motors have always provided their cars with numerous high class safety features. But Tata Indica eV2 eL comes with minimal of them as it is the base diesel variant. In order to cut down the price tag attached to it, the safety features here are not many. But, on the bright side, the car does come with child safety locks for the rear doors , high mounted stop lamps, collapsible steering wheel and seat belts for all passengers. These safety traits manage to score decent marks in the safety section here.
Pros
New stylish design for the exteriors and superb fuel efficiency
Cons
Lack of many safety and comfort features.
