Xcent 2016-2017 1.2 Kappa Base Review
The Hyundai Xcent 1.2 Kappa Base is an entry level petrol trim in its model lineup. It is incorporated with a 1.2-litre dual VTVT engine that is based on a DOHC valve configuration. This can generate a power of 81.86bhp along with 113.75Nm of torque output. In terms of safety, it includes a few vital aspects like central locking, and engine immobilizer, which helps in keeping its passengers secure. Moreover, with this facelift, it gets anti lock braking system as a standard feature that further boosts its braking mechanism. It has a spacious cabin that is neatly designed and packed with some useful aspects. There is ample leg and head room offered to its occupants, while the boot compartment is also quite spacious. The cabin includes room lamps, map pockets, passenger vanity mirror, and a power assisted steering system as well. Its sporty exteriors are quite appealing and comes equipped with a few styling aspects. The front fascia is highlighted by sweptback headlamps and chrome radiator grille, whereas its aerodynamic side profile looks attractive with B-pillars and door mirrors. Meanwhile, its rear end is designed with a wraparound tail light cluster and a well sculpted bumper. The firm has offered it with a large fuel tank that is capable of holding around 43 litres of petrol in it.
Exteriors:
This sedan's total length is 3995mm, whereas its overall width and height measures 1660mm and 1520mm respectively. Its robust yet stylish body structure comes fitted with some captivating aspects. Its rear end includes a wraparound tail light cluster that is integrated with turn indicators. This further surrounds the boot lid, which has a thick chrome strip and the company's logo embossed on it. The bumper is painted in body color, while there is also a windscreen as well as micro roof antenna in its rear profile. On the sides, its wheel arches are equipped with a set of 14 inch steel wheels that have full wheel covers. These are further covered with tubeless radial tyres that are of size 165/65 R14. Also, there are door handles, B-pillars and outside rear view mirrors, which further adds style to its side profile. Moving to its front facade, it has a large windshield equipped with a couple of wipers. The radiator grille is garnished with chrome and further engraved with company's insignia in its center. It has a decent internal section that is quite spacious and decorated with beige and black color schemes. This is further complimented by blue interior illumination. It can accommodate around five people with ease besides providing ample leg and head room to them. The seats are well cushioned and come integrated with headrests. These are covered with high quality cloth based upholstery. The rear seat comes with a center armrest that further includes cup holder as well. Meanwhile, its cockpit looks quite modernistic with a dual tone dashboard that houses a few sophisticated equipments. These include a three spoke steering wheel, air vents and a glove box compartment with cooling function. It also has a stylish center console that is equipped with an AC unit. Moreover, it is offered with a boot compartment of around 407 litres, which is quite good for storing a lot of luggage inside.
Engine and Performance:
In terms of technical specifications, this variant has a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine fitted under its hood. It carries 4-cylinders, sixteen valves and is based on a double overhead camshaft valve configuration. A multi point fuel injection system is integrated to it for enhancing its fuel economy. This dual VTVT mill has a displacement capacity of 1197cc. It can return a maximum fuel economy of about 19.1 Kmpl on the highways and 15.7 Kmpl within the city. The maximum power it can generate is 81.86bhp at 6000rpm and it can deliver torque of 113.75Nm at 4000rpm. This motor is mated with a five speed manual transmission gear box. It lets the vehicle achieve a top speed of approximately 145 to 155 Kmph and to break the 100 Kmph in nearly 16 seconds.
Braking and Handling:
This entry level trim is offered with a proficient suspension system that helps the vehicle remain stable at all times. A McPherson strut is assembled on its front axle, whereas the rear one is affixed with a coupled torsion beam. Also, both these axles are fitted with gas shock absorbers that further assists in giving a smoother drive. On the other hand, its front wheels are fitted with disc brakes and sturdy drum brakes are used for the rear ones. Besides these, it has a motor driven electric power steering system. It is quite responsive and helps driver to maneuver it effortlessly in any road condition.
Comfort Features:
It is loaded with a few practical features to improve comfort levels of its passengers. Some of these include the front power operated window, and map pockets on both its front as well as rear doors. It comes with adjustable seat headrests, while there are also room lamps offered. A manual air conditioning unit is also installed along with a heater, which cools the cabin in no time. The sunvisors at front include vanity mirror on passenger's side, whereas the outside mirrors are internally adjustable. It also has a multi information display that includes a digital clock, average vehicle speed indicator and dual tripmeter. Meanwhile, the instrument panel displays notifications of driver seat belt, door ajar, low fuel and a few others.
