The rugged Scorpio series is a very popular SUV in the Indian automobile market. It is available in numerous trim levels with diesel engine as standard under the hood. This Mahindra Scorpio Getaway is one of the two variants in its series, which is slotted in the pick-up segment. This vehicle is powered by a BSIII compliant 2.6-litre diesel engine that comes with a displacement capacity of 2609cc. This SZ CRDe, four stroke engine comes with turbo charger and it is incorporated with a direct injection fuel supply system. This trim comes with an aggressive look, powerful engine and a grand deck. It comes incorporated with advanced aspects like voice assistance system, which alerts with a gentle voice if a door is not properly shut or if the seat belts are strapped in. It also indicates when the fuel reaches to its reserve capacity. This vehicle comes equipped with several important features like illuminated key ring, follow-me home headlamps, mobile charging facility and other such aspects. At present, the company is selling this SUV with a standard warranty of two years or 50000 Kilometers, whichever is earlier. This period can be extended further for one or two years at an extra cost paid to authorized dealer.

Exteriors:

The car maker has given variant an attractive and intimidating overall appearance owing to its aggressive cosmetics. Unlike the conventional SUV, this vehicle comes with a pick-up trailer, which gives a complete utility vehicle look. To start with its front facade, it has a large headlight cluster, which is equipped with powerful halogen lamps and side turn indicators. In the center, it has an aggressive radiator grille, which is fitted with vertically positioned slats. It is engraved with a chrome plated company's insignia in the center. Its front bumper is quite muscular and it houses a large perforated air dam along with a pair of dynamic fog lamps. Its bonnet also features an air intake scoop, which gives an aggressive look to the front profile. Coming to its side profile, it is quite sleek, thanks to its exclusive sporty decals that emphasizes its adventurous look. The door handles along with the ORVM caps are painted in body color, while the window waistline and sills have black sash tape. Its flared up wheel arches are fitted with a set of 16-inch steel wheels that are further equipped with full wheel caps. These rims are covered with P245/75 R16 sized tubeless radial tyres. Also there is a side foot step fitted under the doors, which makes it easy to access the interiors. The overall look of its side is complimented by the 'GETAWAY' sticker affixed on to the trailer. Its rear profile features tailgate that is decorated with decals and chrome plated model lettering, body colored bumper and a tail light cluster.

Interiors:

The spacious internal cabin can provide comfortable seating for at least five passengers. It is built on a large wheelbase of 3040mm and a width of 1850mm, which provides good leg and shoulder space. Its interior comes with beige and tan color scheme, which gives a plush look to the cabin. All the seats have been integrated with headrests while the front seats also have two individual armrests. These seats have been covered with high quality fire retardant fabric upholstery. Its dashboard looks quite attractive and equipped with AC vents, a large glove box, three spoke steering wheel and an instrument panel. Its also comes with an attractive central bezel that has a glossy finish, which gives a classy look to the interiors. The company has incorporated the cabin with a mobile charging facility for the front and middle row. On the other hand, this vehicle comes with a large fuel tank capacity of 80 litres, which helps in planning for longer journeys.

Engine and Performance:

Under the bonnet, this variant is powered by a Bharat Stage III compliant 2.6-litre diesel engine that is based on a DOHC (dual overhead cam shaft) based valve configuration. It has four cylinders, which have been further integrated with 16 valves and helps it to displace 2609cc. This motor is further incorporated with a common rail fuel injection system that assists in delivering a mileage in the range of 9.4 to 13.5 Kmpl, which is quite decent. This diesel motor has the ability of churning out a maximum power of 115bhp at 3800rpm and yields a pounding torque output of 277.5Nm between 1700 to 2200rpm, which is rather good for Indian road and traffic conditions. It is cleverly mated with a proficient five speed manual transmission gear box that powers the torque output to its front wheels and delivers a flawless performance. It takes about 19.1 seconds for crossing the speed barrier of 100 Kmph from a standstill and it can achieve a top speed of approximately 145 Kmph.

Braking and Handling:

The front wheels are fitted with high performance disc brakes, while its rear wheels have been equipped with traditional drum brakes. This trim is also integrated with a power steering system that makes it simpler to handle this vehicle in peak traffic as well. It supports a minimum turning radius of 5.7 meters, which is quite good for this class. On the other hand, its front axle is assembled with double wishbone type of suspension along with torsion bar. At the same time, the rear axle is paired with semi elliptical leaf spring, which is accompanied by double acting hydraulic shock absorber and stabilizer bar.

Comfort Features: 

This variant comes with some important comfort features, which makes the journey pleasurable. It is bestowed with an HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioner) unit that regulates the air temperature inside irrespective of conditions outside. It also has features like individual seat armrests in front, power steering with tilt adjustment, electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors, mobile charging facility and many other such aspects. It also comes with a central bezel featuring IP console and power windows with control switches in central console.

Safety Features:

This sports utility vehicle is being offered with a lot of crucial protective features, which gives a stress free driving experience. It has a rigid body structure, which includes crash protection crumple zones that minimizes the impact in case of a collision. It is also incorporated with child safety rear door locks, collapsible steering column, split intrusion beams, fire resistant upholstery, tubeless radial tyres , remote central locking and unlocking of doors, vehicle security system and voice assist system.
