Force Motors was founded by Late Shri N. K Firodia in 1932. He initially imported and later began manufacturing of what we all know as 'Tempo', a popular three wheeler public transport, in collaboration with Vidal & Sohn situated in Hamburg, Germany in the year 1950. It is later on the 15th of Aug, 1957 a landmark year that the production of Tempo began with full swing by acquiring a small plant in Goregaon, Bombay (now Mumbai). The granted capacity by the Government was 80 vehicles per month and 1000 vehicles per year. The company's production was shifted in its entirety to Akurdi near Pune by 1964. The same year, the manufacturing of Tempo Viking, four wheeled trucks and vans commenced in the month of November. Government increased its licence capacity to 6000 vehicles per annum. The Tempo Viking was later equipped with a diesel engine which was named as the Matador, the production of which began in 1969. Force Motors' German counter part merged with Daimler Benz in the 70's owing to the rapid mergers taking place in that country. Force Motors, however continued in its endeavor for mechanization of transport and developed Trax, a vehicle which was exclusively designed and targeted towards the untamed roads in the rural areas. To upgrade its LCV range, the company started the production of Traveller under a licence agreement from German auto manufacturer, Daimler Benz. The facility was developed in M.P in 1987 in close coordination with Benz.
