Despite packing seating for seven and a decent list of features, the Renault Triber comes in the firing range of the Maruti Suzuki Swift. So which one of the two should you buy?
Renault has launched the Triber in India with prices starting from Rs 4.95 lakh to Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom India). It might be a seven-seater that measures under four metre in length, but that puts it bang in the middle of the popular Maruti Swift’s pricing. So which one should you buy? We compare similarly priced variants of the two to find the answer.

The Renault Triber’s engine is not only smaller but also offers less power and torque than the Swift. How that translates in the city and out on the highway will only be known when we compare the two in real-world test conditions.
-
Both cars get a 5-speed manual as standard but Maruti already offers the Swift with an AMT while the Triber will get one at a later stage, possibly at the 2020 Auto Expo.
-
The Triber gets a BS4-compliant petrol engine for now. Expect the engine to be upgraded to meet BS6 norms when the AMT is introduced. The Swift’s petrol motor already complies with BS6 norms.

Common Features: Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, high-speed alert system, driver seatbelt with pretensioner and load limiter and front seatbelt reminder, engine immobilizer, body-coloured bumpers, 14-inch steel wheels, manual AC, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, fabric seat upholstery, front power windows and electric boot lid release
What Triber gets over Swift: Projector headlamps, 12V power socket, sliding and reclining second row as well as a removable third row.
What Swift gets over Triber: Pretensioner and load limiter for the passenger seatbelt, adjustable front headrests, ISOFIX child seat anchors, LED tail lamps and a roof antenna.
Verdict
With its lower price tag, additional features and seating for two more passengers, the Triber offers better value than the Swift. However, if you are looking for a car with ISOFIX child seat anchors, then the Swift is your only option between the two. Moreover, the Swift also packs seatbelt pretensioner and load limiter for the passenger seatbelt, which is surprisingly missing in the Triber.

What Swift gets over Triber: Two additional tweeters, front adjustable headrests, steering-mounted controls, height-adjustable driver seat, auto-down driver window and electromagnetic back door opener.
Verdict
The Triber trumps the Swift again with its value card as it gets more features at a lower price point. However, in terms of safety, the Swift continues to excel with features like ISOFIX child seat anchors and passenger seatbelt pretensioner and load limiter. You would easily be able to get a favourable driving position thanks to height adjustable driver’s seat in the Swift.
