Nano to adorn gold, silver and precious stones

Have you heard of a car loaded with gold, silver and precious stones! No? Tata Motors is now planning to introduce a car adorned with these precious stones worth Rs 26 crore. This will perhaps be the world’s most expensive small car. Don’t doubt your eye-sight, yes, Tata Nano, the cheapest car in world has tied up with Tata’s own brand-Titan, a stalwart in watch manufacturing to produce this new small wonder. Titan’s mass market brand Goldplus is now working in synergy with Tata Motors to rejuvenate both the brands in the market. The ‘Goldplus Car’ will be adorned with 78 kg of 22 carat gold, 15 kg of silver and 10,000 precious and semi precious stones.

Customers in India have a huge craze about jewels and such an innovative concept of loading a car with sparkling stones will surely have a handful of takers. Especially during the wedding season, such a move will be appreciated in the market. CK Venkataraman, COO (jewellery division) at Titan said jewellery is the company’s biggest contributor. Titan wants to showcase the expertise of diverse Indian jewellery-making art through this effort. Goldplus, which currently has 29 stores, plans to start about 15 more stores in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra by the year-end. The stores are mainly franchisee-led. Goldplus expects to book Rs 10,000 crore profits in the span of next five years.

Bhaskar Bhat, MD at Titan said that Goldplus is mass appealing in its very local looks. The after sale service and the supply chain at delivery caters to the local consumers. Although Tata Nano did not comment on the plans of this invention, the move is sure to upgrade the sluggish sales of Tata Nano which is facing huge criticism due to its fire catching incidents.
