India Bound: 2016 Audi A4 Revealed

The new A4 is 25mm longer, the wheelbase has been increased by 12mm, gets Audi’s 12.3-inch digital instrumentation cluster and is nearly 120 kilos lighter compared to the outgoing model!

Audi has revealed the next-generation 2016 A4, the sedan will go on sale later this year in Europe. The Indian debut is expected early next year or maybe by the end of 2015. The new A4 has received considerable changes, it rides on a new platform, gets uprated engines and transmissions along with new features.

In terms of design, It looks like a facelift of the current gen model as it has retained the A4 cues, however, it present them in a longer and wider looking body. At the outset, it gets a new larger single frame grille (this is the new family sedan grille, just like the Q-Series’ new single frame grille). The headlight cluster is redesigned, now comes optional with LED and Matrix LED lighting. The LED daytime running lights are new. The sedan has become sharper than its predecessor and the crease lines are fairly noticeable.

At the rear, the same A4 story repeats although the tail lights are completely re-imaged with a new LED graphics. The typical A4 boot lid spoiler is sharper than ever and the bumper is new.

Unlike its exteriors, the interiors look nowhere near to the cabin of the outgoing A4 sedan, and that’s a good thing as the current car’s dash has started to show its age! The first thing that will grab your attention is the optional Audi’s flamboyant 12.3-inch virtual instrumentation cluster (it debuted in the country with the new TT). The Audi MMI infotainment system is extensively updated, the 2016 A4 comes optional with new MMI Navigation Plus with MMI touch and a massive 8.3-inch display.

The infotainment system offers smartphone interface for connecting Apple and Android phones. The decibels are powered by, just like before,  Bang & Olufsen Sound 3D System. Another striking aspect is the dash featuring continuous AC air vents and the climate control in a new interface with a larger screen. Moreover, it also features an Audi phone box, which charges your phone wirelessly.

Globally, the new A4 will be available with three TFSI petrol motors and four TDi diesel engines, mated to 6-speed manual and S-Tronic automatic transmissions. Audi says that power has increased up to 25 percent and fuel economy gets 21 percent improvement compared to the current set of engines. Speaking of India, Audi is expected to continue with the 2.0-liter TDI option.
