We reported earlier that Honda has currently dropped its plans of introducing Vezel crossover, however the company is considering a Brio based SUV for the country. This seems to be a perfect strategy, knowing that Vezel would be a costlier product, Brio based compact SUV suits the current market demand.

Brio's platform is a very flexible and it already accommodate Amaze compact sedan and Mobilio MPV. So, by extending this versatile platform to get longer wheelbase, the company could develop a small SUV which will be cost effective as well. Now, the speculations about the compact Brio SUV has been floating in the Indonesia market as well.

Speaking to iotomotiff, Jonfis Fandy, the director of marketing and after sales, Honda Prospect Motor said that the launch of a compact SUV might happen as this platform is suitable and reliable. However, He didn't confirm the production starting in Indonesia, “There has been no discussion on it this time, but the company is ready with the ‘capacity and production capability’.”

At the last year's Tokyo Motor Show, the company's official confirmed that Honda is considering the seven-seater MPV and SUV for the Indian car market by 2015. Moreover, the Brio SUV is expected to carryover the same 1.5-litre i-VTEC and 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine, which currently powers the new City sedan and Mobilio MPV.
