GM India might hike price across models from next month

Karl Slym, the President and Managing Director of General Motors has reportedly informed that they are considering to increase the prices of their cars after the review meeting that is to be held next month. The commodities like steel, crude and other materials that are going into the production of the cars are increasing and hence it is imperative to take the decision on the matter.

He further added that despite the slowdown in the market, he is confident that an OEM can beat the sluggish growth in the market. Referring to last year’s sales, he said that while the industry marked a growth of just 30%, GM was able to register a growth of 60%. The company envisages following the same trend this year and stated that while, the industry was facing a slowdown, GM grew by 14% in the month of July and 10% in August. The low sales growth was due to the absence of the diesel variant in the small car segment of GM as the Chevrolet Beat diesel was rolled out by GM only towards the end of July. With the current market scenario, he said that GM India might not be offering any festival discounts on their car models.

As for the GM dealerships in India, Karl Slym has recently inaugurated the fifth dealership in Pune taking the number of dealerships to 252 in the country. General Motors India apparently has plans to launch five more products in the next five years. While two of them are being developed in the Talegaon plant of GM, the rest are under production in the Halol plant in Gujarat. Two of the five products being manufactured will have the SAIC design and the other three will be offered from GM. The auto manufacturer also intends to ramp up the production capacity from 1.4 lakhs to 1.72 lakhs by the year end to handle new products. The upcoming products will have 80-90% of localized components. General Motors' Indian arm Chevrolet offers various small cars and sedan cars in India these are Chevrolet Spark, Chevrolet Beat, Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Aveo U-VA , Chevrolet Optra, Chevrolet Optra Magnum and Chevrolet Aveo. Apart from these cars Chevrolet India also offers Chevrolet Captiva, Chevrolet Tavera and Chevrolet Tavera Neo.
