Another smoking Nano puts a question mark on the model’s safety

It’s time for Tata Motors to get worried again because the news of another smoking Nano is there in the air. This is the seventh Nano which has been reported for such a news. This time the small car of Tata Motors, Tata Nano almost caught fire. The incident took place in Ahmedabad. Although the company tried to cover the case as only a wiring defect but the recent incident has put question mark on the safety of this cheapest car of the world. Recently, Tata Motors undertook a Tata Nano Superdrive for establishing the strength of Nano. Customer Rakesh Shah who owned this Nano at Ahmedabad commented that he trusted the product, because of the goodwill of the company, despite the apprehensions. Now that he has been saved, how could he trust that car. He also said that he is happy that his family was not travelling with him.

One of the spokesperson of Tata Motors, referring to this incident said that the Ahmedabad incident of Nano is going through investigation and the company will take the necessary steps. The officials of the company could start the car and drove it to the company’s dealership which indicates that there was no big issue with the car, added the spokesperson. Till now, seven cases about Nano have been cited. These models either reported short-circuit and smoke or caught fire.

The experience of the recent victim, Rakesh Shah was quite similar to that of other owners of Nano. Five Tata Nano totally went up in flames and the remaining ones experienced short circuit after a drive. The company has linked the smoke to a short circuit in the combination switch area. The company spokesperson further said that they had already announced a 20-member internal team and an independent forensic expert for the earlier incident of Nano. These measures will check the safety of the car, said the spokesperson. The company has also asked its dealers in the month of May to contact owners individually for fixing appointments for the required inspections.
