Pros : Looks, Cost, Interior, Space, Boot space,
Cons : Mileage, Needs Multifunction steering wheel, More accessories for free
Before I decided to buy this car, I considered several other cars. Now here's my research- I had a fixed budget of 6 lacs (on road). Around December 2012, I wanted to buy a diesel car and after a lot of research, I finalised Ford Figo Diesel. Soon I heard the news that Diesel is going to be deregulated and the cost of Diesel would increase to 10-15 Rs/ltr. This meant that it would somewhere around 10 Rs. lesser than petrol. Besides, my usage of car would be not excessively high. I would use it only for family trips or some movie plans or small outings. Therefore paying around 1 lac extra just for a diesel engine didn't make enough sense to me. I then decided to go for a Petrol car (my wife wanted a sedan) and when we talk of a middle class family wanting to buy a sedan car, the first choice that strikes our mind is dzire.
However, I "hated" the looks of Dzire and that it was so common on the road. I also thought of Amaze but it had a waiting time of 5-6 months and the interiors was exactly that of Brio. Meanwhile Chevy Sail was launched on 1st of Feb and I was looking forward to it. I and my wife had a visit to the Chevy Sail showroom and we're amazed and the desire to own it was getting us.We booked it on March 6th. Look and Style: I wanted a car that has a very balanced look from every angle and Sail has it. Unlike Amaze/DZire, it doesn't look cramped. I've seen people driving Vento/Jetta/Fiesta or even Skoda, turn around to check out my car. I feel so collared up. :) Comfort: It is extremely comfy. There is enough leg room. Extremely spacious with huge boot space. Interiors is very nice. I feel like driving a luxury car. :) Pickup: Pickup is decent. When you keep on driving in city traffic and you suddenly get a empty road, most cars will race away and you need to push the accelerator harder at lower gear to catch up with them. At a speed around 80, it is very smooth. Mileage: With a petrol engine, I'm getting a mileage of 12 kms/ltr. Besides, I drive in heavy traffic condition.
Best Features : Looks, Comfort, Chevy logo at front and back, Boot space, interior, everything is great. Needs to improve: Mileage, I wanted a multifunction steering wheel. Very less free accessories. Overall Experience: My experience with this car has been fantastic. Service is also great. No major complaints. Only two complaints that I have is with the showroom.
1) I bought it from Chevrolet Orange, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. I originally booked an LS ABS petrol car . After 2 months of waiting, they called me and said that they've got an LT ABS (costs around 80K extra). If I want I can take it and if I decide to wait for LS ABS, they can't guarantee how much more time I shall have to wait. Since I was frustrated, I decided to take it by paying the extra amount. I feel I was tricked.
2) When buying the car, they said that if this was my first car, I shall have to pay 12% of car cost as tax and if it wasn't my first car, then I shall have to pay 14%. Since it was my first car, I paid 12%. Later in the RTO, I came to know that since a bike was already on my name, I shall have to pay 14%.
If the showroom guys had informed me beforehand, I would've transferred the bike to someone else's name which would have taken few more days. Anyway, I'm done with those issues now but anyone of you buying the car, please take care of above points and don't fall prey to such tricks. So, far the car is concerned, I rate it 9/10. In my opinion, it's a definite winner over Dzire and Amaze.
