Scorpio 2014-2022 1.99 S6 Plus Review
Mahindra and Mahindra has launched the facelifted version of its best selling SUV, Scorpio in the market. It is available in two diesel engine options and several trim levels, out of which, Mahindra Scorpio S6 Plus 7 Seater is their mid range trim. This newly launched SUV comes with some exterior updates, which makes it look more attractive. Its frontage gets a newly designed bumper, which has a wide air intake section, a perforated new radiator grille with body colored slats and re-designed headlamps. The sleek bonnet is designed with scoop for better air intake. At the same time, the rear end has refurbished tail light cluster and black tail gate cladding. Its internal cabin also gets some minor updates like a modified dashboard with new sporty looking steering wheel and re-designed AC vents, which gives it an upmarket look. The well cushioned seats are covered with premium fabric upholstery and provide ample leg space for all passengers. In terms of safety, this variant is also incorporated with anti lock braking system, driver airbag and several other aspects. On the other hand, the company has not made any mechanical changes to this utility vehicle. This particular variant is powered by the same 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine under the hood that can displace 2179cc. It can churn out a maximum power of 120bhp in combination with 280Nm of peak torque.
Exteriors:
The designers have done a brilliant job with its exteriors. The overall body structure is aerodynamic and its frontage looks bold and aggressive. The side profile has body colored door handles and external rear view mirrors, which are integrated with side turn blinkers. Its pronounced wheel arches have been fitted with a robust set of 17 inch steel wheels that are covered with 235/65 R17 sized tubeless radial tyres. Its front facade has a neatly designed radiator grille that is fitted with some body colored slats. It is embedded with a chrome plated company logo in the center. This grille is flanked by a newly designed headlight cluster, which has been integrated with high intensity halogen lamps and side turn indicator. Below this is the body colored bumper with cladding and it houses a wide air dam for cooling the engine quickly. The front windscreen is made of toughened laminated glass and have been equipped with two intermittent wipers. At the same time, its rear end gets a bright tail lamp cluster and a body colored bumper with a pair of reflectors. The windscreen is integrated with a defogger and a wiper as well. Apart from these, it also has a sporty rear spoiler along with a high mounted stop lamp for added safety.
Interiors:
The two tone interiors of this Mahindra Scorpio S6 Plus 7 Seater trim are quite spacious and incorporated with a lot of features. Its seating arrangement is extremely comfortable to take in seven passengers with ease. The seats are covered with fabric upholstery. The middle row seats come with foldable function, which helps in increasing the boot volume . The illuminated instrument cluster features a number of notifications like low fuel warning light, digital tripmeter, outside temperature display, door ajar warning and several other notifications for keeping the driver updated. The modified dashboard is equipped with a few features like a wood finished central bezel, a new steering wheel, a large glove box and re-designed AC vents. It has an accessory socket in central console for charging mobiles and other electronic devices. The tilt adjustable steering wheel makes handling quite comfortable even in heavy traffic conditions. This variant is bestowed with a lot of utility based aspects like cup holders in front console, front seat back pockets, a large glove box, remote central locking and interior room lamp.
Engine and Performance:
This particular variant is powered by a 2.2-litre, turbocharged, mHawk diesel engine that has a displacement capacity of 2179cc. It is integrated with 4-cylinders and 16-valves using double overhead camshaft based valve configuration. This diesel motor can generate a maximum power output of 120bhp at 4000rpm along with 280Nm of peak torque between 1800 to 2800rpm. It is mated with a new smoother five speed manual transmission gear box, which transmits the engine power to its front wheels. It powers the engine to zoom towards a top speed of about 156 Kmph, which is quite decent. At the same time, it can accelerate from 0-100 Kmph in close to 15.8 seconds. This engine is incorporated with a common rail based direct injection fuel supply system, which can deliver a maximum mileage of 15.4 Kmpl.
Braking and Handling:
The company has given this Mahindra Scorpio S6 Plus 7 Seater variant a proficient suspension mechanism, which is further assisted by hydraulic double acting telescopic shock absorbers. Its front axle is assembled with a double wishbone type of mechanism with independent front coil spring. Whereas, the rear axle is fitted with multi-link coil spring suspension with anti roll bar. Its front wheels are equipped with a set of caliper based ventilated disc brakes , while the rear gets drum brakes . This braking mechanism is augmented by anti lock braking system. It has a rack and pinion based hydraulic power steering system, which is tilt adjustable and supports a minimum turning radius of 5.4 meters.
Comfort Features:
This variant is bestowed with several sophisticated features for convenience of the occupants. It has a 2-DIN music system that supports CD/MP3 player, Radio with AM/FM tuner, USB interface, Aux-in port and four speakers. The efficient air conditioning unit has a heater and rear AC vents. Apart from these , it is incorporated with some other features like all four power windows with driver side auto down function, intelligent front wipers, follow me home headlamps, power adjustable outside rear view mirrors and rear defogger.
Safety Features:
The company has given this sports utility vehicle a rigid body structure with crash protection crumple zones and side impact beams that protects the occupants inside cabin in case of any crash. It has seat belts for all passengers along with driver seat belt warning notification on instrument panel. Apart from these, for extra protection, it is also blessed with airbags for driver, a central locking system , rear doors with child safety locks, an engine immobilizer for preventing the vehicle from theft, collapsible steering and a high mounted stop lamp.
