Fiat is re-introducing the Adventure brand in India, and is considerably the second innings for the model in India. Palio adventure could not work well thus the company felt a need to re-launch the adventure brand. On the other hand Punto Adventure is an entirely different territory, based on the Punto Hatch. This crossover will compete against the likes of Volkswagen Polo Cross and Toyota Etios Cross. Skoda Fabia Scout was the first entrant in this space, created a new segment of hatch crossovers, which didn't go well, and so the vehicle is now discontinued.
The Italian beauty gets tougher and more rugged with plastic cladding running all along the body. One thing you will notice the most is the rear hung spare wheel, imparting classic SUV looks to the vehicle. This vehicle gets restyled, courtesy the heavy looking front and rear bumpers as compared to the current hatch. At the front, the bumpers are dual toned. The vehicle is equipped with a fake silver colored bash guard at the front as well as rear. The headlight units are a carry forward from the hatch. Side profile of the vehicle is a xerox copy of the hatch except the side plastic cladding. Rear profile is a completely new world when compared to the hatch, except the rear spare wheel mounting which is the distinguishable factor amongst the two. The rear wheel mounting is attached to the chassis, thereby to open the boot, one will have to open the spare wheel mounting firstly, that opens sideways. The newly styled bumper houses the reverse light, reflector and rear fog lamps just like the current setup of the hatch. Tail lights are straight carry on from the hatch. The overall dimensions of the vehicle remains exactly the same, as of the hatchback. Punto has the highest ground clearance of 185mm, among the B+ hatchback space in our market. The vehicle gets bigger wheels, a size up from the current 15 inch. Current hatch stands at 3,987 mm in length, while attaching spare wheel at rear, will let the vehicle to cross the 4000m mark. Still the vehicle will have the excise benefit, like the ford EcoSport.
The Adventure Cross sports the same powertrains, currently available with the hatch range. The 1.3- litre Multi-Jet diesel unit powers the diesel variants, which generates two different power outputs - 75bhp and 90bhp. It is only possible due to a fixed and a variable geometry turbo charger. The petrol variants are being offered with a 1.4 T-jet mill, borrowed from the Fiat Linea sedan. This engine delivers 113bhp at 5,000rpm and a whooping torque of 207Nm at 2,200rpm. The torque build up starts instantly, as the engine is turbo charged. Adventure cross will give straight on blow to the internationally acclaimed Ecoboost motor powered Ford Ecosport. On the contrary, even with the rear spare wheel mounting, vehicle lacks the “macho” looks of the Ford. Transversally placed engine will power the front wheels, while the transmission duties are handled by the existing five speed manual transmission.
Interiors of the vehicle are similar to the one found on the hatch, slightly tweaked to offer more sportiness in this crossover version. The vehicle will boost similar cabin space as the wheelbase is kept the same. Crossover is equipped with climatronic automatic air conditioning, Fiat's Bluetooth device, Blaupunkt music system etc. On the safety front, this vehicle is available with twin airbags for driver and co-passenger, anti lock braking system with EBD.
