Flashback to June 2010. The location is Delhi. The sun is out in all its glory. They don't call it an Indian Summer for anything. I'm getting ready to go to work... but little do I know that this will be the day that'll change my perception of a "moment" forever. I get into my raggedy, ancient Santro. This warhorse has seen its days, but even this machine is no match for the sun god, which is out on all of its glory. Maybe this IS the last day on earth. I start the car, put the AC to the maximum and hope for the best. Ten minutes in. Twenty minutes in. Thirty minutes in. This is depressing. I'd rather put a damn cooler in here. The car and the rest of me are getting hotter by the minute... all the while noticing a blue car scream past me with the windows up. If green was the color of envy, I'd been the greenest thing you ever have seen. I crawl to my place of work. A closed office has never looked so refreshing. Go upstairs, turn on my workstation, and try to recollect what that car looked like... Flash forward to August 2010. The temperature seems to be getting tolerable. My current choice of transportation isn't. A friend of mine buys a new Punto, and shows it off to me. Huh? A Fiat and an AC that sluggish? Perhaps you got handed a weaker model, my friend was my response. As you can see that little bit of June sun was still with me. I start with the comparisons. Punto, no way. An i10 perhaps? What is this, another Santro to replace this one? That car zooming past me 3 months ago was still in my head. Fire up the browser, tap in a few select keywords, and start the research... Google seems to be full of info about this car. The official site has something called a special edition in there... hmmm... interesting. Google and a tussle within my mind keep me occupied, for the better part of the last quarter. A premium hatchback at this salary? Are you crazy? Go for something sensible I thought. And in the Indian Auto Dictionary, if you look up sensible, you'd probably see a photo of a WagonR in there. I went for the customary test drive. First gear, second gear, turn AC on, take it up the slope. How about a fourth gear? I don't think the poor guy liked what I suggested. It rumbled with a loud NO. I agreed and took it back to the showroom. Perhaps someone who considers transportation as going from point A to point B might like it. Disappointed at myself, Google and my research I started to walk back to my old workhorse. The salesman tells me to sit in this customer car they've in for servicing. Hmmm... I think I've seen this car before... it had its windows up and had a shade of blue... WOAH! WOAH! I never thought it'd be so big from the inside! WOAH! Look at that space and funky gear positioning... hehe it even looks like a bull from the cockpit. Whoever put that tachopod in there is a serious sci-fi fan. It looks like the deck of the Enterprise with that thing! I push the driving seat back to fit my crude stature in and take a peek behind the driving seat. I could fit in there again. Was this a sedan in hatchback clothes? I schedule a TD instantly since they don't have a TD vehicle ready. Aww... bummer. One week you say? Seven days have never seemed so long in my life. Eventually, after what seems like eons, the TD day approaches, and the keys are in my hand. One turn, and it's like a cat that's just getting out of bed, purring... we take the city roads, and the cat has started to wake up... the salesman tells me to take it to the highway instead. Bad move, buddy. Well, it's your car.... third gear, 3k on the tacho, and 60kmph on the speedo. Fourth gear, we're already over the century mark. Notice an i20 on the right. Heh. 3k on the tacho, fifth gear, and 120kmph on the speedo. Two minutes on, and I see that faint tilted H in my rear view mirror. Poor guy. The salesman tells me there's something called a special edition too for this beast. Did they put in more horses in that one I quipped? Sadly no. They made it funkier though. A quick trip to your showroom car lot is in order, my friend. There I see what I could only think of as a shy, sleeping bull all covered in dust. One quick wipe and the word GENUS peeks out from the back... GENUS indeed. I concur. This is a fine day. The dreary Indian Summer is long gone. There's no fog, no wind, no work... almost a great day to take delivery of a new car... the trip to the showroom seems longer than a trip to the end of the galaxy. Oh come on! Why are there so many traffic lights in this city? Why do people move so slow? Don't they know I've someone waiting for me? I pull into the showroom after dodging through the traffic, and there it was. The bull wasn't sleepy now. It stood there in all its glory, eyes all wide and ready to be unleashed onto the unsuspecting tarmac. Thirty minutes pass, the formalities are all done... but wait! Oh why does the service advisor need to teach me how the car works now? I guess he's as emotional as I am. I can understand well my friend. And it finally happens. The key falls into my hands. The unlock beep sounds sweet as if two soulmates meeting for the first time... I start her up and honest to god, I don't think I even put the key into the ignition. Perhaps this bull remembers me from my last time. First gear, about 1.5k on the star wars envy-inducing tacho, and the rumble starts.... Present Day. The double unlock beep still sound sweet to me. I get in, first gear, second gear, third, we're on the highway. I see someone sitting in their car on the side of the road. It's starting to get kinda hot these days... I zoom past them in the little bull, windows up. I think he just saw the Car of The Year 2010 sticker at the back... I guess in about 6 months time, there should be another of these little bulls on the road. The Indian Summer, and blazing tarmac, the sluggish i20's on the highway, and the weak so called premium cars have just witnessed the future. They haven't lived the moment. I get to work, lock the car with a beep. The guard asks me which car this is. The bull just winks at me from the parking lot. Ladies & Gentlemen, I present to you, the limited edition Maruti Suzuki Ritz Genus. A moment to be lived.

Finally, I have chosen Maruti Ritz Vdi after gone through all top car reviews of owners. Please find below My experience. My Requirements: - Spacious Front Seating Area, since it will be occupied most of the time. Rear Seats will be used rarely. - Good Mileage. - Decent Looks and Interiors. - Good After Sales Service. - Tried and Tested Product. So, after reviewing many of the Team-BHP Hatchback Reviews and keeping in mind my requirements, I finally shortlisted the following: 1) Ford Figo 2) Maruti Suzuki Ritz 3) Toyota Liva. The first to get eliminated was the Ford Figo, due to: - Low GC Issue : The place where I live has some tall speed breakers and I feared scraping and damaging the bottom no matter how carefully I drive. - Not so good Mileage, compared to Ritz and Liva. - Not sure about Ford After Sales Service. - One of my friends had his complete suspension setup changed in warranty during 2nd Service due to some issue. This did not give me the confidence to go for a Ford Figo, even though it is a brilliant car. The next in line to get eliminated was the Toyota Liva, due to: - Not so inspiring Interiors. - Well known Suspension Noise Issue. - Not so strong build quality. So, the only contender left is Maruti Suzuki Ritz and that's what I ended up with. Having owned a Maruti earlier [Alto Lxi], I was pretty comfortable and confident in the Maruti Suzuki Brand as well as their After Sales Service Department and Network.

Ritz - a car which is not generally liked by many because of its looks. This can be a personal preference, though, I can understand. I own Ritz, a supercar in its range. Excellent drivability, comfort, pick up and what not. You will get what you need from Ritz. Do not compare with any high-end cars. Just check in this range and you will find that Ritz is one of the best. When I owned one, I realised that this car is one of the best. It's very comfortable and has a good space inside and interior in my model is also very nice. As in it slacks down considerably, but this tuning has been done by the Maruti Suzuki fellows to return decent mileage figures. You will find the need to change to lower gears (especially on the highway) while overtaking, after which the car simply zips past your opponent. Basically, the car offers more than enough power for your city needs and sufficient power for the highway. But if you're in the mood to race, you might as well go buy yourself a race car. Because, this car is no snail, but no cheetah either. The engine is a bit noisy though and gives a slight race car noise at higher revs. Fuel economy is nothing close to what Maruti claims ( 17-18 km to a litre). It returns about 11-12 in the city and about 15 (to a litre, petrol) on the highway which is not great, but ok. The gearbox is nice and easy on the hands, but could have been a little smoother on the feel, just a little. The gear ratios also are well set, making this car a very good performer.  Pros: 1. ZXI a high VFM. Forget about Auto Climate Control as you not going to spend your life in the Car.  2. Aerodynamically built exteriors, inspired from European cars  3. Jewel of an engine because it's almost silent.  4. Stability at approx 165 kmph.  5. Interiors are best in class, rear leg space even more than Swift and Of course Beat.  6. Tall body design plus high seats give an Innova like experience. Cons:  1. Cup holders  2. Rear visibility: Rear sensors a must after market buy in congested areas.

Maruti Suzuki - Ritz "The Tall hatch" from the wide portfolio of Maruti Suzuki is genuinely a no nonsense car. The reasons I bought it were as follows. 1. It carries the name "MARUTI". Just like any other Indian even for me the word MARUTI screams Trust, Reliability, Good resale value, Wide service network, Affordable spares. 2. It was offering a Diesel Engine (I opted for VDi) 3. Compare to Swift it was approximately Rs.40,000/- cheaper at that time and was offering the same engine as Swift. 4. Availability - No waiting period. I have already clocked around 90,000 Kms in last 6.5 Years and I'm totally satisfied with its performance. In these 6.5 Years never has been a day that I regretted buying this car. I basically use it for my daily routine from my house to office which is approximately 10 kms and occasionally for a long trip as well. It's great to drive it in city as well as on a Highway. The overall fuel efficiency is great as well. I have been steadily getting around 15-16 Km/Ltr. The overall built of the car is quite impressive. Till now I have replaced all the 4 tyres and battery with new ones. There have been minor issues with the AC twice but were easily fixed by the local mechanic. Even the local mechanics swear by Maruti, they always advice me to replace this car only with a MARUTI car. Coming to the Interiors. They are quite simple and basic which isn't a problem with me. They have given a nice sporty Tachometer on the dash to give it a sports car feel. There is a very clean and nice odometer. The steering is quite comfortable. The gear box is very smartly placed and adds to the modern look of the car also it is very soft to use. There are sufficient Knick-knacks in the car, my personal favourite is the compartment on the centre of dashboard. The rear seating is very comfortable as well with sufficient knee and head room. 3 people can manage comfortably in the rear seats. The boot space is also sufficient. Exteriors: The tail lights of the car looks really modern and add to the overall rear look of the car. The VDi trim is provided with two round fog lamps on the bumper. The side profile is quite appealing as well. The Tyres are bigger than the most of the other hatchbacks in the market. The Wheel caps have a pleasant design. The overall width of the Car and Wheelbase is such that it is very easy to maneuver the car in a cranky city ride. Cons: 1. The diesel engine does have that loud peculiar sound that easily differentiates it with a petrol car. 2. The spare parts aren't that reasonable as I expected. 3. No music system and no audio controls on the steering. Conclusion: Overall as mentioned its worth every penny spent. It is very different from other hatchbacks available in the market in terms of overall appearance. Great engine, great fuel economy.

As an owner of this car, we greatly experience its power and pick up and feel the comfort zone of the maruti car. We hardly believe that it's like the best compact and stylish car for the youth as well as the family members. Its looks are just amazing and its curve is too beyond the limit.The tail light cluster looks very good and class apart in night driving. Day times also we feel it is one of the best clusters and Front cluster too is nicely placed. Also its specific feature in the interior part is so cool, its audio system, rpm meter always help me the pressure for the accelerator thus we may easily control the situation whatever it should be !! The suspension is well suited for Indian roads. The car feels heavy and feels good on highways. The gear shifting is ultra smooth and falls in place with the clicking sound. We are using this car from the last two years only, we never want to sell this, as it provides many of the experiences. When we talk about the machinery part it is simply the clever part, it takes only 5 seconds to take a speed of 60km/h and this is just the thing we loved it too much !!  

Maruti Suzuki Ritz is a good value for money car and is the best for both city and highway use... High-speed stability is awesome till 160 kmph and the car can pick up speed up to 180kmph (tested on the highway) by us.............. The car got an excellent acceleration and is very good in the terms of handling.............. The ride quality of the car is a little compromised but when compared to the other cars of the segment, it's a lot better than the mass of the other hatchbacks........ The car when under the correct use of gears is quite calm but can tend to become quite loud when it picks up speed not gradually but suddenly........... The looks are great and flaunting from the front and a lot van like from the sides but the rear looks wack......it's awkward and the worst angle to look at the car...... The wheel arches of the car are so bulging out from the car that they always tend to get crashed with other cars.....it makes parking difficult and also passing through narrow lanes with other cars parked next to impossible...... The alloys look a little small when compared to the volume of the car.......... The color options of the car are too good rather excellent.............according to me it looks the best with the maroon color...... The lights of the car are not worthy to be complained of... The visibility from the car is great too..................... When u enter the cabin of the car u r greeted with a nice, spacious and luxurious cabin................. The boot is very very small and is not even suitable for going to the shopping mall................... The car's rear seats are really supreme on comfort and are uncomplaining... The front seats are too great ............... The interior design of the car is like a big exclamation mark with the gear as the dot of the exclamation marks(!).............. The AC vents look cool and the throw of the air is good in the front..... The default music console is not too god looking and we have changed it with a touchscreen panel from the house of SONY......... The AC knobs are of good built.................. The built quality of the car is really cool............. although the plastic quality is not up to the mark...................... The car feels very very airy and has a great sense of space inside it............. The rpm meter mounted on the dashboard looks really cool and sporty toooo..... The rear seats of the car make u feel that of riding a much larger car than it really is but still if turn your head to look back through the rear glass it will make u feel claustrophobic inside it.................. The recline angle of the rear seats makes it a good car for highway ride.......but the rear seat lacks a handrest..... The mileage of the car is ok ok types but it could have been a lot better... The ground clearance is good enough......but it's a really sporty package and someone who likes to drive will surely fall in love with it too.............it's not a mixed bag but on the better side...... Someone who has a tight budget around 7 lacs, for them Ritz is the best choice and its the value for money car with affordable maintenance cost tooooo...................
