Hindustan Motors has announced that it will introduce the automatic version of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in India. The exact launch date of the vehicle is yet to be announced, however, it is expected that the launch could happen by the middle of this year.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

Launched in early 2012, the Pajero Sport is locally assembled at the Hindustan Motors Tiruvallur production plant in Chennai. Currently, the Pajero Sport is powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine that churns out a maximum power output of 178bhp and 400Nm of peak torque. Power is transmitted to all-4 wheels via a five speed manual transmission. The automatic version of the Pajero Sport is likely to get 'INVECS-II 5-speed automatic with Sportronic' transmission, which currently paired to same engine for Thai customers.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

HM currently sells the Ambassador, Pajero Sport and Montero in India. However, the company is planning to launch a new range of vehicles in the highly competitive market. Moreover, the new Outlander with diesel engine is also on cards.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is directly competing against the segment leader Toyota Fortuner. The automatic version of the Fortuner is mated to a 4-speed auto gearbox, while the Pajero Sport is likely to get a five-speed automatic transmission. So, it will be quite interesting to see how HM improve its sales by introducing new vehicles.
