Rexton RX5 Review
Mahindra and Mahindra had bought 70% stakes of Ssangyong in 2010. And now, the firm has finally brought in the first Ssangyong product into the Indian car market. The new Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton RX5 has finally been launched in the Indian car bazaar. This was first revealed at the 11th Auto Expo held in New Delhi in January, where it managed to grab a lot of eye balls. Now that the official launch has been done, the car is gaining a lot of positive response from the critic as well as from the consumers. However, the direct competition coming from the new Tata safari Storme SUV is a major tension for the Rexton SUV. Nonetheless, Mahindra and Ssangyong has made Rexton best suited for the Indian consumers and with numerous high class features and strong diesel engine, it will not fail at any point. Under the hood, 2.0 litre of in-line five cylinder turbo diesel engine is making the SUV proud. The 155PS of power and 360Nm of maximum torque produced by the engine takes the performance of the car to a notch higher. The interiors are loaded with all kinds of high class features, ranging from CD player with Bluetooth and USB interface, multi-functional steering wheel, power windows, AC with rear AC vents and so on. Overal l, Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton turns out to be an impressive SUV, which has been priced competitively.
Exteriors
The exteriors of the freshly launched Rexton RX5 SUV could be summed up with two words- bold and beautiful. This one is a complete package that showcases opulent craftsmanship. The elegance and sophistication oozes out from every angle, specially the front façade. The front here comes with good-looking grille and sharply done headlamps. The bonnet is sporty and will surely attract you in first glance. Fog lamps are positioned on the either sides of the bumper that add on more charm to the look of the car. Coming to the side profile, the roof rails are very sporty, while the rear profile is complemented by its stylish tail lights. The rear spoiler has a character of its own. On the whole, the car is a superb combination of style and sophistication, which makes it a heartthrob in the SUV segment .
Interiors
The freshly launched 2012 Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton RX5 SUV is well-resourced with fine interiors. The refreshing style combined with elegance give a perfect definition to the interiors of Rexton. In the front cabin, you will notice, wonderfully lit tachometer with central panel designed with sheer grace. On the other hand, the information cluster comes with many warning lights and other information warnings. The steering wheel is multifunctional and is wrapped in leather to enhance the grip for the driver. The finishing done of the central panel, audio system and gear knob is done with finesse. - Ssangyong Rexton AT - A Genuine SUV
The Rexton is today perhaps one of the most underrated cars amongst is contemporaries ie Fortuner, Ford Endeavour & Mitsubishi's new Pajero. I have test driven on these cars under different driving conditions but I found Rexton AT as most road worthy, dependable & very comfortable car as compare to the above SUVs. I do understand that the initial models of the Rexton had some technical problems which not only created a bad reputation but also drastically brought down the resale value of this vehicle but 2014 onwards Rexton has just transformed into a beautiful SUV overcoming the majority of its earlier technical issues. Although there is still chances of further improvements provided Mahindra pays some close attention to this beautiful machine. If I may be consulted by their technical team I confident that by just implementing my few suggestions this vehicle will rule the roads & will definitely throw out the current market leader of SUV. Feature wise no other SUV of its category is anywhere close to this vehicle. It has a beautiful Mercedes engine which gives enough power to give a very smooth & noiseless ride. Read More
- Serious Issues With The Vehicle Kindly Don't Purchase
Purchased Rexton RX5 as the proud first customer from VVC motors in Jan 2012, problems started six months after the purchase. My clutch broke down four times in last 6 months, no one from the service centre (VVC motors) are able to solve the issue as they are always in denial mode, my vehicle is left in servicing centre for almost three months. Even if I want to sell the vehicle, there is no one willing to buy this because of the clutch issues and servicing centre is unable to correct this. The description by the Customer Care Manager, " If the vehicle is not driven properly you can loose the clutch box in as early as 300-400 km of drive ". Kindly see this as red alert in buying this vehicle. I strongly recommend all the reviewers to prohibit buying this vehicle to save yourself in time and money. This vehicle is new to India and kindly don't experiment in buying this vehicle like me. Read More
- Horrible Experience
Experience has been absolutely horrible, to say the least. Bought RX5 variant on 25th august from Koncept automobile, Lajpat Nagar Delhi. The car began giving a rubber burning smell within a week. On 16th September the vehicle broke down and had to be lifted by a crane and taken to the workshop. I was told that the clutch plate has burned which was replaced by the dealer. Got the vehicle back on 18th sept. Again on 20th sept the vehicle again started to give a strong burning smell and went to the workshop. It was returned to me the next day with the dealer saying that there is no problem in the vehicle. Again on 27th, the vehicle started giving jerks while driving and also a very strong burning smell. The vehicle again went to the workshop. This time the clutch plate was changed once again and the vehicle was kept in the workshop for 6 days by the dealer and the reason given was that Mahindra engineers are coming from the plant to inspect the vehicle. I got the vehicle back on 3rd October. I insisted that I need a written confirmation from Mahindra that the problem has been evolved permanently or else my money should be refunded. I was sent an email by Mr Rajiv from customers services department saying that the problem has been resolved and if it occurs again within 30 days then my money will be refunded. The burning smell started again on 15th October and as it continued for next 3 days with the vehicle also giving jerks I have once again brought it to the workshop today. The dealer's driver drove the vehicle for about a km and insisted that he can't see any issue. I have insisted that the clutch plate be opened in my presence. Waiting in the workshop currently, really horrible experience so far. One does not buy a 21 lacs priced vehicle to go through this experience. I suspect that the dealer is denying the problem as they want the 30 day period to pass so that it does not have to refund my money.Read More
- Rexton RX7 True Feedback
Before I proceed I would like to mention that I read almost all reviews & watched all videos of Rexton of all generations across worldwide websites and not just on Indian websites. Off course my first choice was Fortuner but thanks to its long waiting period that gave me the chance to drive Rexton in between and changed my decision forever. Also, I took test drive 4 times of both vehicles before concluding RX7 as my SUV. Also, the Price was never a factor for me to chose Rexton above Fortuner but it does play an important part if we start comparing the features of both SUVs. Look and Style; There is no doubt that RX7 is one of the best looking SUVs available as of today. If you compare it with Fortuner, Captiva or SantaFe. I may only consider Fortuner as the only competitor, however, I chose RX7 coz in my city (Gurgaon, Haryana) every second SUV is Fortuner and I am really sick of its looks, secondly Rexton may not look aggressive like Fortuner but it's bigger than Fortuner & more subtle lines & chrome unlike flashy chromes of Fortuner, that's the only reason RX7 gets all head turns towards it by all Audi, BMW & Fortuner owners off course. LED Lines on headlamp & Tail Lamp make it look extremely stylish at night. I got myself Black colour which indeed suits this SUV really well. The interiors are loaded with features, it's better if you go to the Rexton website and go through them and I will mention the remaining features at the end of this review. My wife travels a lot in Innova as her company's transport facility and when we went for the test drive of Fortuner she could barely make any difference on interiors (No offense to Fortuner owners) and she always wanted me to buy Audi Q3 just because of the looks & interiors however My Idea to buy RX7 was to have a really SUV with good space. Comfort: It can surely beat any SUV in comfort factor as it has excellent suspension though sometimes you feel they are really soft however I tried this SUV on Jim Corbett jungle drives and it supported really well and trust I didn't have to do much to control it as AWD and excellent suspension did an excellent job. All leather seats are extremely comfortable better than any SUV I have driven so far including BMW X1 which was terrible on a road trip. Yes If we talk about breaking it is very powerful however the soft suspension pushes little in front that makes you feel that brakes are not effective but in reality the brakes are excellent and you actually start enjoying that push once you get used to this SUV. Pickup: The only question that kept till the end in my mind after every test drive was the pick up better from its competitors or should I consider 8 seconds time for the total pickup time as it was an AT Diesel. The pick up isn't great for 1-2 seconds however it picks up really well in next couple of seconds. However, if you are in hurry then switching to manual mode takes care of that. This is one feature that can really fun if you wanna zip zap on Indian roads. You can switch gears like Playstation on your steering and have fun while beating others. It's not highlighted by the company on their website but it does bring a lot of fun to this SUV. Mileage: I won't talk much about mileage as the first service is due on completing 10000KM which is kind of drop back in their service manual. So far I am getting 7-8 in City and 10-11 on highways. Best Features: Countless, however, my favourite are a big sunroof, memorised auto seats, manual gear mode, super advanced cruise control that can be set on incline/decline mode, you can speed up without touching your pedal. Don't need to set the speed again even when you stop completely just cross 40 press the Cruise control and it takes you back to the top speed you set. Highfi audio system, freaking automatic control for every setting you can think off. Once again there is no comparison when it comes to features with Fortuner or any other SUV.. Having said all this, this review is seriously for automatic buyers. If you are looking for Manual drive SUV look for some other review. You can't beat Fortuner manual with Rexton manual. So if you want an AT AWD like an Audi or BMW with all features, go for the Rexton RX7. Needs to improve: Car keys, old model keys should have been a foldable key or I should say keyless start-stop would have been there, but not a big trouble as such. Overall Experience: So far amazing, once I cross 10K km would again review.Read More
