(View All Models)14th February, 2013 : BMW has finally delivered the promised X1 at a base price of Rs. 27.9 lakh (Ex-showroom Delhi) . The car is available in a total of 3 trims namely, X1 20d, 20d Sports-Line and 20d X-Line priced at Rs. 27.9 lakh for the base model and Rs. 32.5 lakh for the other two. The new X1 features the 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine that cranks out 184bhp and is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Refreshed features include a redesigned bumper and slightly altered front grille with a redone lower front end. This refreshes the styling of the X1 gives it a better stance. The corona rings have been redesigned in the headlamp and so are the ORVMs.

After the partial success of BMW Z4 roadster, luxury car manufacturer BMW plans to launch its cost efficient and much stylish SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) model BMW X1 in the Indian auto market. BMW has launched BMW X1 with comparatively lower price tag to capture more market share and to make its position stronger in luxury car market. The powerful SUV from BMW is priced in the range of Rs 22 to 30 lacs. The company unveiled this stylish SUV at Delhi Auto Expo on 23rd December 2010. BMW X1 is launched in 3 major variants that are available with six speed automatic gearbox. The three variants of the car are equipped with a petrol engine and 2 diesel powered engine. The affordable SUV, BMW X1 is launched in India as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit and will be manufactured at the company’s Chennai based manufacturing plant.
BMW X1 is available in three exciting variants and is powered by both petrol and diesel engine. BMW X1 is loaded with turbocharger, variable intake geometry and common-rail fuel injection in 1955 cc four-cylinder diesel engine that offers maximum output of 177 Bhp and torque of 350 Nm at 1750- 3000 rpm whereas the petrol engine comes with 1995 cc four-cylinder engine that churns out 150 BHP of maximum power at pm and 200 Nm of maximum torque at 3600 rpm. BMW X1 is mated with six speed automatic transmission gearbox which will supply the power effectively and make the ride more smooth.
BMW X1 is a compact yet stylish SUV model which is loaded with a lot of newer generation features. The compact premium SUV, BMW X1 is claimed as the first in its segment. This type of vehicle design looks massive from a distance but it is rather small in size. The exterior design is influenced from sedan while in terms of storage space it is an SUV. The front style is awesome thanks to its kidney grille chrome with black vertical slats, halogen headlights and round shape front fog lamps. The BMW X1 is designed with front long air intake just above it black plastic skirt gives it a more utilitarian appearance. Exterior Measurements
The BMW X1 is based on 3 series Touring platform, against the expectation of it being I series. The SUV has got longer wheelbase that is 2760 mm, overall length is 4454 mm, width is 1798mm and height is 1545mm. The front and rear tracks are measured as 1500mm and 1529mm respectively.

Editor's take : The interior of the X1 is a typical BMW, and the front row is spacious. It is the second row that is a tad tight on knee room, and it has to as the X1 is ideally a driver’s car.
Much-awaited compact premium SUV of BMW- BMW X1 - comes with sound design job inside. However, it is not up to BMW standards. When you step in its cabin, you feel like you're sitting in an ordinary car. The company has still, however, loaded the cabin with everything possible. The dashboard comes in dual tone styling, it houses instrument cluster, AC vents, audio system, glovebox, etc. The instrument panel comes with twin dials that sports speedometer, tachometer, fuel level and consumption. The instrumentation is just like every other BMW clear and functional.
The steering wheel is wrapped in leather; it is added with mounted controls on its two side spokes. The front cabin of BMW X1 is spacious that ensures sufficient headroom, legroom, shoulder room and hip room: the front armrest comes with sliding adjustment. The standard seats can be adjusted manually for height, fore and aft position. Front seat belts are inertia reel with pyrotechnical belt latch tensioner and belt force limiter while the rear seat belts are three with inertia reel. The seats are decorated with gold stripe across the seat backrest. The rear seat row might not be comfortable for those who are heavier. Moreover, its too small to accommodate three passengers. Power sockets are positioned at front centre console and in armrest compartment.
The upcoming BMW X1 is speculated to be featured with front and rear electric windows with open and close fingertip control, the windows are heat insulated and tinted all round. There is enough storage space inside the car with superb illumination; ambient lighting, illuminated glove compartment, Illumination for vanity mirrors, illuminated luggage compartment, courtesy lights front and rear, front footwell lights, front and rear reading lights; storage compartments in centre console, dashboard and front interior door panels, cup holder in centre console.
The recently launched BMW X1 comes featured with Door sill finishers with BMW designation, velour floor mats, grab handles - four with coat hooks in rear, handbrake lever grip and gear lever knob in leather, Satin Silver interior trim; optional trim range is also available in overseas market and is believed to be introduced in India as well.
Interior Comfort
The company has not only paid attention to the safety of the passenger but also has ensured distinctive comfort level by loading the BMW X1 with several features. The multi-functional three spoke steering wheel is wrapped in leather and can be adjusted as per the requirement of the driver. The front and rear windows can be opened and closed with fingertip control; they are heat-insulated and tinted all around. There are head restraints for front and rear seats while the front seat comes with sliding adjustment.
The BMW X1 is designed to give more storage space to the passengers; the storage space is available in the form of centre console, dashboard and front interior door panels, luggage compartment - illuminated with four lashing eyes in boot floor and additional storage on each side and under floor, Cup holder in centre console. It is expected that the compact SUV will be available with more or less same features in India although, the company may trim some features to keep the cost low for the country.
BMW X1 Engine and Performance
Editor's take : The 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine on the X1 is quick enough for this compact SUV, and does a 0-100km/hr in under 9 seconds. The performance of this diesel was much better than the petrol, hence BMW discontinued the petrol engine.

BMW that launched the 2013 BMW X1 in Indonesia in January, is now all set to roll out the vehicle in India on February 14- the Valentine's day. The car which has received some cosmetic changes both inside and out, will retain the existing petrol and diesel engines, but they have become more powerful this time around.

2013 BMW X1 that made its world debut in May 2012 has already been launched in several international markets, after launching it in Malaysia and China in November 2012, it has now made its way to the Indonesian market, and soon we will have the updated X1 in India as well. However, in Indonesia the car has both the petrol and diesel engine options unlike Malaysia, which only received the petrol variant of the car, powered by the 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor and an eight-speed automatic transmission (replacing the 6-speed used earlier).
