Mahindra Scorpio VLX Special Edition is the latest trim rolled out by the Indian auto major Mahindra. The company has disclosed in its official portal that only 500 units of this special edition trim will be available across the markets. The company has launched this new variant on the mid range VXL platform and it comes with few exciting features both inside and out. Powering this new special edition trim is the Bharat Stage IV compliant 2.2-litre diesel power plant that has the ability to produce 2179cc of displacement capacity. Coming to the special edition features, Mahindra & Mahindra has incorporated additional features including the new luxurious European leather in tan and beige, leather wrapped gear knob & gear shift, leather wrapped steering wheel, Integrated Roof mounted DVD player with 9 inch display, the most important Dual front SRS airbags and a high gloss wood finished central bezel. These exciting new features makes this SUV more desirable and alluring in its segment.
This trim has got the same old body design with same exteriors and cosmetics. Although, it has got the same old design, its muscular exteriors makes it a first choice for many of the Indian SUV enthusiasts. The front facade of this Mahindra Scorpio VLX Special edition trim is dominated by a bolder radiator grille painted in body color. There is a silver coated strip incorporated to this radiator grille that is further equipped with the chrome plated company logo. This radiator grille is complimented by a large headlight cluster that incorporates turn indicators. On top of the hood there is an expressive bonnet that comes with air scoop. On the bottom, the bumper is very bolder in design that incorporates an air dam and fog lights. This bumper has been painted in body color and has been decorated with motor sport inspired graphics. The side profile of this is muscular and expressive than any other SUV of its class. You can also find the motor sport inspired graphic on the side profile along with Scorpio badging. This special edition trim has been blessed with a new signature chrome garnished alloy wheels fitted to the wheel arches. The rear profile however, remains to be the same as its existing version.
The interior cabin of this Mahindra Scorpio VLX Special Edition trim has been made better by covering the seats with luxurious European leather in tan and beige. Also the gearshift knob and the steering wheel have been wrapped in leather upholstery that enhances the feel inside. This trim variant also gets few exciting features including the roof mounted DVD player with 9 inch color display. On the other hand, the central console of the dashboard gets the high gloss wood finished bezel that beautifies the interior cabin. These are the few additional cosmetic as well as utility updates given to this variant, which will further add to the excitement of the owner. The interior cabin is spacious enough to offer luxurious seating space for at least five passengers. The dashboard comes equipped with an advanced music player along with an air conditioning system that keeps the environment chilled while offering high quality entertainment to the occupants. There are several other noticeable features incorporated inside this vehicle including arm-rest, cup holders, stylish instrument cluster and several other advanced features.
Engine and Performance:
This Special Edition trim is powered by the same old 2.2-litre, mHawk, CRDe, Turbocharged, inter cooled engine that has 4-cylinders, 16-valves and makes a displacement capacity of about 2179cc. This engine has the ability to unleash a peak power output of about 120bhp at 4000rpm and yields a maximum 290Nm of torque output in between 1800rpm to 2800rpm. This engine power is transmitted to the front wheels of this SUV through the 5-speed manual gearbox that also responsible for enhanced performance and mileage. The company claims that this SUV offers a peak mileage of about 15.4 Kmpl, which is impressive.
Braking and Handling:
Mahindra hasn't made any modification to the braking mechanism of this Special Edition trim and it comes with the same disc and drum braking combination. The company fitted the disc brakes to the front wheels of this SUV while equipping the rear wheels with drum brakes. This reliable braking mechanism is further enhanced by the sophisticated Anti-lock braking system. It is a heavy SUV, but still not so tough to handle because of the robust suspension system and a responsive power steering system. As far as the suspension system is concerned, its front axle comes fitted with an advanced Independent, coil spring loaded type of suspension system accompanied by anti-roll bars. The rear axle of this SUV has been fitted with multi-link suspension system accompanied by coil springs.
Coming to the comfort features, Mahindra Scorpio VLX Special Edition trim comes with exciting set of features that makes the journey joyful. The company has incorporated features including an air conditioning system, intelli-park system, rain & light sensors, cruise control & audio controls on steering wheel, leather seating, power steering system, power windows, glove compartment, digital clock, power adjustable exterior rear view mirror and many other features. This SUV also comes with an advanced music system along with a roof-mounted DVD player with 9 inch color display that offers ultimate entertainment for the occupants inside.
As far as the safety and protective aspects are concerned, this trim comes with all the features that were offered with the existing VXL trim. Apart from this, the company also incorporated the dual front SRS air bags that enhances the safety levels of this SUV and improves the protection to the occupants. On the other hand, this SUV comes with a list of safety functions including ABS, central locking system, power door locks, child safety locks, anti-theft alarm, day & night rear view mirrors, side impact beams and so many other advanced functions.
