The Maruti Grand Vitara is powered by a 2.4 litre, 4 cylinder, 16 valve, DOHC, VVT, VIS, BS IV compliant petrol engine that is powerful enough to generate a top power of 163.5 bhp at 6,000 rpm and develops a peak torque of 225 Nm at 4000 rpm. It is available in two variants, MT and AT that are coupled with a five speed manual gearbox or a 4 speed automatic transmission. The vehicle has been equipped with all four disc brakes, front McPherson Strut and rear multi-link suspension.

The engine is coupled with a 5 speed manual and 4 speed automatic transmission (in top end variant) which is powered by drive by wire technology. The variable valve timing (VVT) technology is responsible for higher torque output and better fuel efficiency; the engine is also mated with MPFI fuel distribution system for the same reason. The Maruti Grand Vitara is a completely built unit (CBU) imported right from Japan and launched in India: it is the only SUV offered in the country by the top Indian car maker Maruti Udyog Ltd. The SUV has distinctive design cues and looks like a big brother of Maruti's Jypsy. The SUV has great capabilities both on and off road which is why it is the ultimate choice of fun-loving drivers.

The front view of the Maruti Grand Vitara is really muscular and bigger that gives the feel of a truly hard machine. Front components are positioned right at the flat nose which smartly houses multi-reflector halogen projector head lamps for extra illumination road ahead, honey-comb front grille with centrally placed SUZUKI logo in chrome finish, lower grille and front fog lamps above the body colour bumper. From the front view, higher ground clearance of the vehicle is clearly visible. Maruti Grand Vitara has got a smaller front windscreen but the visibility is wider as the hood is kept lowered. The windscreen comes with high/low two speed variable intermittent and washer as well.

The Maruti Grand Vitara features body colour rear view mirrors (ORVMs) that are electrically adjustable for the convenience of the driver. The SUV has been provided with larger wheel arches that houses 17 inch long tyres; though; it has a pretty good gap between wheel arches and the tyres that makes cornering very easy. The interior design of the Maruti Grand Vitara is no doubt a combination of classic and modern design job that is visible from its dashboard entities and advanced car features. The dashboard integrates instrument panel with a Multi-information Display (MID); a centre speaker at the top of the centrally located AC vents, new digital instrument panel, in dash 6 CD changer with AUX terminal. The instrument panel design uses the conventional method of three dials, it houses speedometer, tachometer and MID; the MID display in speedometer with illumination control displays low fuel warning, average speed, instantaneous mileage, average fuel consumption, odometer, cruising range, gear position (in AT variant), outside temperature and door ajar warning.  

The Maruti Grand Vitara comes with three spoke urethane steering wheel that is tilt and powered; it also has illuminated audio controls that enhance the view of the SUV. The inside cabin has a series of illumination codes such as front map light, 3 position centre room light & 3 position rear room light, 2 position luggage area light, key cylinder with illuminated ring. A lot of storage space is provided in the cabin at various places.

The Maruti Garnd Vitara is decorated with silver finish inside door opener, silver garnish shift knob, rich fabric seat upholstery, front and rear door trims with fabric accents. Interior Comfort

Maruti India has offered the Maruti Grand Vitara with a large number of comfort features that might not be possible to have on finger tips. In other words, I can say that overall comfort of the occupants is kept in mind when launching it in India. The SUV has been gifted with two seat rows; the front cabin has driver side seat height adjuster, both front seats has got head restraints; front passenger assist grip, driver seat belt warning indicator. The rear seat row of the Maruti Grand Vitara is 60:40 split tumble-folding with three head restraints, centre armrest, assist grip and coat hooks.

The variable valve technology (VVT) works for greater torque and fuel efficiency; it also gives the vehicle better off-roading character. The company has also incorporated an innovative Variable Induction System (VIS) that improves engine performance. There is an all time 4X4 mode that gives four choices according to the terrain; the modes work for normal driving, medium off roading, when the vehicle is in mud, sand or snow and towing.

The Maruti Grand Vitara is assembled with 17 inch wheels and 225/65 tyres that help the vehicle to run on any kind of terrain. The 17 inch aluminum alloy wheels give it sporty look. The tyres are tubeless and radial. The spare tyre can be covered with company tyre cover with SUZUKI logo.

The Maruti Grand Vitara is equipped with disc brakes at front and rear that ensure instant halting of the car and help to safeguard the occupants. The braking system is also mated with Anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Electronic brake-force distribution EBD along with brake assist that collectively works for dynamic braking power and handling.

The SUV-Maruti Grand Vitara- has been fitted with sound suspension system that promises better ride and handling; the front forks are McPherson Strut type and rear forks are multi-link type. It also has wider wheelbase that is 2640mm long with 200 mm of ground clearance for better off-roading capabilities.

For handling the Maruti Grand Vitara with ease and safely, the company has incorporated an array of handling assisting and safety features. The SUV comes loaded with both sides disc brakes along with ABS with EBD and brake assist. One of the most exciting feature in the SUV is all time 4X4 mode that can be used by a knob for different terrains; in all modes, power is sent to front and rear wheel equally. The four switching modes are 4  high, 4 high lock, 4 low lock and neutral. The 4 high mode is there for normal driving in which the central differential remains on while the 4 high lock mode can be selected for medium off-roading, wherein the central differential rest in locked mode. In the same way, if the vehicle sticks in  mud, sand or snow, the driver has the 4 low lock mode in which the power is sent to front and rear wheel equally but after increasing the torque using a traction enhancer. The neutral mode is used when your vehicle has to tow some other vehicle; this time the power is not sent to any wheel and central differential is unlocked.

The Maruti Grand Vitara carries all the safeguards that can be found in any premium luxury car. It is armoured with SRS Dual front air bags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, head impact protection structure, foot protection design for brake pedal, front seat belts (3 point ELR seatbelts with pretensioner, force limiter with height adjusters), 3 point ELE rear seat belts, child proof rear door locks, immobiliser, high mounted stop lamp, dead locks, AT Shift and key inter-lock (only in AT variant), front and rear doors with side impact door beams.

The audio system is much advanced that is comprised of AUX terminal, 4 speakers and 2 tweeters, sub-woofer and centre speaker, 6 CD in dash with MP3  player plus WMA, digital audio display with clock and illuminated steering wheel audio control.

The Maruti Grand Vitara comes with standard AC with climate control, pollen filter, the AC vents are located at the dashboard. The AC control are now in digital mode at control panel in the dash.
