The marquee of Lexus was established in the year 1989 and operations were mainly focused at American and European markets. However, with the spending power of the emerging markets like India, it was the time to launch the brand in these markets as well. In popular culture, these cars enjoy a lot of admiration with several filmstars seen ferrying around in their Lexus cars. In India there will be an array of Lexus car to be launched soon and one of them is Lexus LX. It is perhaps considered one of the top 10 Large Luxury SUVs available in the market today with smooth riding on highway, great off-road ability and lavish interiors. The 2013 Lexus LX comes with a powerful 5.7L 3UR-FE V8 engine producing massive 383 bhp and 546 Nm of peak torque. In the Indian market it could come in 4.6L or 4.7L trim. A CNG variant is also on the cards. The powerful engine is mated with 6-speed sequential shift automatic transmission gearbox with new all-wheel drive system that uses electronic Torsen center differential technology. The new 2013 Lexus has double wishbone front suspension with solid live axle rear suspension to meet smoothness, strength and durability on the road. The sturdy SUV dashes from 0 - 60 in 7.5 seconds of time attaining the top speed of 137 mph. The mileage is average EPA estimated 12/ 17 mpg in cities and highways respectively. It has been praised by critics for its great handling of rough terrains exhibiting smooth ride on the go. On exterior front the 2013 Lexus LX gets a new look with the addition of Lexus spindle grille, a new LID headlight design, LED daytime running lights, larger fog light bezels, modernized taillights and new bumper design contributing to a more contemporary face. Stainless steel accents add more sharpness to the SUV. The 20inch wheels comes as standard and the car still retains horizontally-split tailgate that opens up like a clamshell. We can open the top half of boot without touching the bottom, making it easy for quick loading of groceries and small items. There are variable intermittent rain sensing wipers at the windscreen, rear defogger, roof rack and remote sunroof operation. The exteriors make a good argument for new development in LX and these gradual changes to the design could be the direct result of increased competition.
In terms of interiors, the Lexus LX comes with number of amenities such as semi-aniline leather seats which can be ordered as optional ventilated front seats as well, straightforward dashboard layout. Buttons are nicely placed and reasonably labeled. Selection of material is smart enough to lure anyone. There is leather and wood trim applied on the central console with wood and simulated alloy trim on the dashboard. A large LCD touchscreen with TFT display is provided at the top of the center stack which looks ideal. Entertainment and comfort are a big part of Lexus success story which comes with standard CD/DVD changer with digital sound processing. A navigation system with 8inch VGA display based on hard-disk is also available with Bluetooth handsfree phone and audio streaming options. It does not end here, to enhance music experience, there is Mark Levinson Reference Surround sound system consisting of 19 speakers and 450-watt amplifier. Bluetooth, USB, AUX-in connectivity with input for Ipods. For rear occupants, there is dual screen entertainment system that comes with two wireless headphones. The entertainment system is mounted on the back of the front headrests without interfering with driver’s visibility. The car is equipped with four-zone climate control. A refrigerated box in the central console for storing cold drinks and power sliding back seats is provided for more comfort. Spaciousness is redefined in the newer version with front and middle row gives more room and the last row best fitted for the kids. Power features includes remote power door locks, power mirrors, reverse tilt dual mirrors providing curb view when car is in reverse, power windows and remote window operation. There are tons of safety features in Lexus LX. There are total 10 airbags for the driver and co-passenger which include knee airbags. Second row is also blessed with torso airbags. Keyless SmartAccess with smart card and Adaptive Front-lighting system comes as standard. On the other hand Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Pre-Collision systems are available as optional equipments. A camera mounted on the grill which acts as a front and side view monitor, gives details of 180 degree view and helps in eliminating blind spots coming on the way. The car contains 4-wheel disc brakes, Anti-lock braking system, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control and Brake assist. All in all, Lexus LX is for those people who want to retain the level of luxury along with off-road capability that a full size Sport Utility Vehicle offers. In India, the Lexus brand would start conservative growth soon. Initially it would enter in the Indian market via CBU route but if consumers respond well to the brand, the company might take a CKD route.
