It is expected that the company will launch Audi A1 in the Indian auto market by the end of this year.

Audi has decided to foray in the small car segment with Audi A1. After much speculation, the company has officially showcased Audi A1 pictures which promise great luxury small car. When each and every auto maker is entering into compact car segment than why not Audi. Audi A1 was first time hit the Tokyo Motor show in October 2007 as a metroproject quattro concept. According to the company, it will have its world premier at the Geneva Show in March 2010. The mini luxury car would be available for sale in the UK in May 2010. The car in hatchback form is expected to hit Indian soars by the end of 2011. However, no official word to confirm the news. Audi A1 is based on its parent firm's car Volkswagen Polo and is to be shorter than the Audi A3, has been a largest selling car model, but will have more length, width and height than the Mini Cooper. BMW 1 series's size would be more appropriate example for Audi A1. The car has three doors and five door hatchback is also speculated in near future followed by the former.
The company claims that Audi A1 would be much sportier and luxurious in the class. Initially, Audi is reported to launch the compact car in four variants viz 1.2L TFSI, 1.4L TFSI, 2.0 TDI and 1.6L TDI engine. The first two are petrol and last two are diesel engine. All the power-plants are smaller, turbocharged and has direct fuel injection system. The base petrol engine, 1.2 L TFSI is capable enough to produce 63 Kw of peak power while generates top torque of 160 Nm at 1500-3,500 rpm. The higher end petrol variant of the Audi A1 is powered by a 1.4L TFSI, four cylinder engine which easily pumps out 90 kW of maximum power and 200 Nm of peak torque at 1,500-4,000 rpm. The variant is to be loaded with standard six-speed manual transmission. The diesel variant of Audi A1 might be loaded with 1.6 TDI 16 valve engine that develops 77 kW of peak power and 250 Nm of top torque at 1500-2500 rpm. The variant is loaded with a five-speed manual transmission. There is a bit confusion for the second diesel engine. Some sources report that it will be a 2.0L TDI engine or others say that it will be another 1.6L TDI engine which is to produce more power.
The exterior of Audi A1 is very much aggressive and borrowed many things from its earlier concept models. The nose of the car is flat and houses broad grille compartment. Roof arch are designed in a liner shape and can be opt in different colors. The rear side view of Audi A1 is majestic and sporty as well. The rear hatch comes in a distinctive design. The rear hatch top end makes a spoiler and looks funky. The tail lights cluster is in triangle-shape with plastically integrated into the design. Audi A1 will have ample space and luxury inside. As per the official pictures provided by the company, the front seat row is spacious and luxurious. Storage space at the dashboard and centre console would be there along with armrest. Mounted audio control is a common feature in premium cars so will hope for the same. Apart from that the drive seat is height-adjustable, power windows and a remote-controlled central locking system would be installed.

The yet-to-launch compact car by Audi, Audi A1, might be loaded with 15, 17 or 18 inch alloy wheels and the tyres would largely depend on the size of the wheels. According to sources, the wheels and other interior features would be availed through packages. In that case, its difficult to predict about these features and their specification. The German luxury automaker – Audi has rolled out the 500,000th A1 from their manufacturing facility based in Brussels, Belgium. Audi A1 made its global debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show and sales commenced in August 2010 in Germany and couple of months later in November in United Kingdom. Furthermore, Audi A1 Sportback - a five door version was introduced in the fall of November 2011. Adding more on the 500,000th milestone, a Misano red 500,000th Audi A1 adorning S line package and featuring 1.4-liter TFSI motor will be delivered to a customer in Germany who ordered it.
This new year brought one more reason to celebrate for the German auto major, Audi as the A1 got an award for being the most cost-efficient Car for an SME company car driver. The car has been praised for its its “low cost, low CO2 and good brand appeal” by judges. The Audi A1 Sportback has won a key award in the annual Business Car Manager SME Company Car of the Year Awards 2012, proving it has pride of place alongside its hugely successful three-door sister model.
