Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) has announced a recall of 31,226 units on the selected variants of its compact sedan Amaze and hatchback Brio. The company will examine the 'proportioning valve' of non-ABS variants of Brio and non-ABS variants of petrol Amaze.

A total of 15,623 units of the Brio hatchback and 15,603 units of the Amaze compact car manufactured from February 28, 2013 through January 16, 2014 are being recalled. Customers can check if their cars are under this recall campaign by simply submitting their 17-character alpha-numeric vehicle identification numbers (VIN) on the company website.

"There is a possibility that in some of these cars there is mis-assembly of the proportioning valve. However, no complaint related to this part has been reported. HCIL will voluntarily replace the proportioning valve after inspection, if required," the company added.

The proportioning valve is part of the system which adjusts brake distribution pressure to the wheels. The company will inspect for the faulty parts and if needed, the replacement would be carried out for free at the HCIL dealerships across the country. Moreover, the owners will also be contacted individually in a phased manner. However, the ABS variants of Brio and the petrol Amaze and all variants of the diesel Amaze are not a part of this inspection because the proportioning valve is not used in their braking systems.

Since the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers has initiated a voluntary recall policy in 2012, many automakers have been pro-active in recalling vehicles for better safety of their customers. The latest recall was from the Maruti Suzuki for the replacement of faulty fuel filler neck. The company recalled 1,03,311 units of its Ertiga, Swift and DZire models manufactured between November 12, 2013 and February 4, 2014, which is one of the biggest vehicle recalls in the country. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) also recalled 44,989 units of multi-purpose vehicle Innova manufactured between February 2005 and December 2008 in India to rectify a faulty cable on the steering wheel.

In this slow economy where most of the manufacturers are finding it hard to keep the ball rolling, Honda has recently announced an increase of 30 percent in domestic sales for the month of April. The Japanese manufacturer retailed a total of 11,040 units in April 2014 as compared to 8,488 units for the same period last year. The manufacturer is also ready with its MPV Mobilio and is looking for a suitable time for the launch in upcoming months.
