Volkswagen is planning to manufacture approx 1 lakh vehicles in the very first year of its launch as India is a huge market of compact cars like Hyundai's i10, Maruti Alto, Ritz, A Star which are doing a great business here. Now the Volkswagen has decided to launch Volkswagen Up as its first ever smallest & cheapest vehicle against the leading competitors like Hyundai & Maruti Suzuki. And the best part about the vehicle is, that company is planning to launch Volkswagen Up in three body styles; 2 door hatchback, a 4 door hatchback version and a 4 door wagon carrying longer wheelbase.

Volkswagen is aiming to present an all equipped small hatchback Up that provides a comfortable riding experience to occupants on any road condition. Initially the concept car had a rear drive and rear engine, but now the company is reportedly fitting front engine layout and front wheel drive in view to keep the cost very low. The car is expected to be introduced in two engine options i.e. petrol and diesel. The petrol engine would sport a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol motor while the second engine option is speculated to be 0.8 litre, 2 cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine; this engine might produce top power of 51 hp and an expected 100 NM while the petrol engine may churn out top power of 75 hp and top torque of 183 Nm via a six speed manual transmission; an optional automatic gearbox is also in the pipeline.

The Volkswagen Up is 3450mm long & 1630 mm wide which is equivalent to the ex-launched premium hatch back Polo. Seating arrangement is comfortable and is  spacious enough in all the three variants, 4 adults can easily travel in basic 2 door hatchback, while in 4 door version ,4 adults can easily ride and 4 door wagon has the capacity to carry 7 people in it. To add more comfort in all new Volkswagen Up! Two monitor screens are given; first 8 inch monitor shows the vehicle speed, fuel level and range, as well as your CO2 emissions, second 7 inch monitor controls climate  radio volume, music selection, telephone, navigation, photos and movies etc. Outer look of the Volkswagen Up is again very attractive, it is well curved with its bonnet & boot. Wheels of the car are well placed and proportioned, wheels are 18 inch in size.
