Peugeot is a car maker that is renowned across the western hemisphere, although its presence in India is slackened in comparison to other, dominating brands in our market. Nevertheless, Peugeot is a truly remarkable car maker, one that has stood tall among the industry with head and shoulders above the rest. It builds a truly motivating atmosphere for the making of its cars. With its origins in France, this is a testimony to the true elegance and beauty ingrained into the very soul of this manufacturer. It was founded in 1810, and it has been turning the wheels for its existence across the massive span of two centuries. The most refined, and state of the art engineering emanates from within the halls of this high class luxury manufacturer.
Another magnificent piece meant to hit Indian roads soon, is the Peugeot 508. It is a masterpiece in its segment, a four doored saloon that is crafted for the utmost of brilliance and lavish display in its make. The saloon is built with the aim of pampering its passengers with all whims possible. It comes with many variants, and many engine trims availed for them as a result. However, the engines are within the capacity of 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre trims, and all of them are HDi versions, turbo charged for maximum output. The displacement values that the engine trims command vary between 1560cc and 1997cc, making this a rather remarkable road hogger for its segment. It fires to top speeds ranging between 195kmph to a stomping 232kmph, and these figures are nothing short of breath-taking to listen to, let alone to experience on first hand basis. The car presents with a unique niche of features, meant to blend performance with luxury and inner wealth. It is painted from the inside as anyone would expect a luxurious French designer to make his craft, and seamless beauty reflects in every inch of the cabin space. Seats built on ergonomic discipline and the most spacious of cabin room together arm the interior with a touch of heavenliness. Premium upholstery, made from the finest of leather houses, decorates the seats and the sides of the cabin, and this ensures that the cabin fills itself with a most exalting and exotic aura. As for the exterior of the car, it is gifted with the mix of both elegance and beauty and aerodynamic superiority. As a result, it reaches a precision point between speed and beauty, being able to roar down the roads and to get all heads turning at the same time. With a higher rear profile and a muscular tone to the overall build, this car captures the best glamor in its make. Its characteristic front grille, large and warm headlights and front bonnet together give it a truly sensual appeal. All brought together, Peugeot has modeled an achievement not in terms of automobile excellence but in terms of artistic genius.
The Peugeot 508 is structured as one of the most marvelous builds ever to be released. This carries a grain of brilliance emanating straight from the renaissance. The reason for this is that its French manufacturer is guided by the drive to personify beauty and artistry in its build. The front of the car has the characteristic Peugeot grille, with the emblem of the company branded atop. Sitting on either side of this is a headlight set, shaped with a mean, lean rectangular shape. It is integrated with LED and all other incorporated lighting systems. Below are two smaller lights, at the center of which, there is the large air intake for cooling the turbo charged engine. The bonnet stretches across to blend into the wheel arches by the side and by the top, it rises fluidically to form the roof. This machine's elegance is pushed to new bounds with a panoramic glass roof that enables a touch of luxury from the outside, and a great deal of peace for the passengers inside. The machine also has satin chrome roof rails, and these give it an expensive vision that is no doubt borne from the most artistic French design. By the side of the vehicle, 17 inch 'metallica' alloy wheels give the car grandeur when viewing it from the side, accompanied by its large fenders and defending side lines. The wings are higher than the bonnet and they add muscle at the rear. The roof line swathes down into the rear, integrating into the back end of the vehicle in perfect modesty. It has rear headlight clusters that are shaped wide and imposing for maximum illumination and a heavy beauty as well. They are complete with LED, turn indicators and courtesy lights to ensure that form and function go in perfect blend.
The Peugeot 508 is built to define perfection in its measurement and build. It rises to a height of 1456mm, meant to exact supremacy when rolling down the streets. It is guarded by an impressive width of 2068mm that makes it a formation of perfect proportions. The machine stretches for a length of 4830mm, giving it a wide standing and intimidating poise on the roads it means to command. Its wheelbase is also good at 1552mm.
The cabin of this machine is suited for providing the finest comforts to its passengers all through the ride. The inside of the cabin is large and spacious, with a layout of the best of all features integrated together. The seats are large and well cushioned, built on a sophisticated ergonomic architecture. Electrically adjustable seats add to the comfort quotient of the passengers, and this is also aided by a heating function. Manual seat controls with a lumbar function make sure that the radiant atmosphere of the car's inside is pushed to its very finest, and that nothing is left unturned when searching for the right premise to astound its passengers. All of this is accompanied by fine leather upholstery that houses the best comfort and luxury for the passengers. The French manufacturer chooses a most exquisite design for the inside of the car, a Marston Tramontane half leather trim, and this ceases to dazzle anyone who takes a ride in the cabin of this well sculpted masterpiece. The sporty feel of the vehicle is further honed by a perfectly stitched steering wheel. Tinted rear and side windows stretch the boundaries of the car's inner lavish. Besides all of these artistic and elegant modeling functions, the vehicle also holds its grounds as a quality entertainer as well. The dashboard sitting propped at the centre is incorporated with all the fundamental features that cars of the day have been asked of, and far more as well. It is armed with a DAB digital radio system that ensures the finest musical allure. Further arming the vehicle from the techno field are a Bluetooth function, which sets this machine apart from the conventional ones on our roads. A satellite navigation function is also to be present, and this is a truly rare feature, and one to be treasured. All of this and more from the car's entertainment, is meant to be displayed through a 7 inch multi-color touch screen. With nothing more to be said, the 508 wraps itself up with quality shining on every facet.
Beside style and elegance, the French designer also brings comfort of the finest for this vehicle's passengers. The four doored saloon is gifted with a large, spaciously erected interior design. The seats are wide, well cushioned, and integrated with a host of functions from lumbar function to heating. Beside this, they are electrically adjustable and made with armrests and headrests. The interior design trim is the finest, for an expensive Marston Tramontane half leather upholstery decorated the cabin. The car also has tinted side and rear windows that add to the feel of elegance that it aspires to build. The crown feature of machine is the panoramic glass rood, relieving the passengers of the mechanical feel of sitting confined in a car. Beside all of these conventional features, a DAB radio system arms the passengers' musical needs. This is shaped better with the help of a Bluetooth function, one that few cars of this day actually have. It has a front and rear parking aid that blends safety with elegance in its display. A satellite navigation is a truly rare spectacle for the car's cabin design. All of this is wrapped up with the 7 inch multi-color touchscreen sitting at the front of the car.
This is a luxury saloon, and as a result it comes with the definitive purpose of space and luxury in its wake. It is wide, large and spacious from the inside. It ensures that that tall, lanky and broad shouldered men can all relax inside of it without lack of space. Furthermore, the seats are large and well cushioned, aided with countless convenience functions. A massive luggage compartment tops off the benefits.
The 1.6-litre engine trim digs deep in its performance capacity, with a top speed of 193 kmph and an acceleration rate of 12.4 seconds. The 2.0-litre engine sends the vehicle soaring to a top speed of 209 kmph, and this is beyond the range that usual luxury saloons account for. As for its acceleration rate, the 2.0-litre mill boosts the vehicle from naught to 100 kmph in a stunning 10 seconds or so. The final and the most formidable of the engines is the 2.2-litre mill. This guns the vehicle to an amazing top speed of 230 kmph, which is probably scathing the surface level of high performance sports cars such as those delivered by Ferrari and Lamborghini. The acceleration rate that the 2.2-litre mill delivers is also astounding, for the 508 zooms from a stall to 100 kmph in just around 8 seconds with the firepower of this final engine. These technical data lay the grounds for a high performance masterpiece that welds the most artistic creation with the most rib-cracking performance capacity, and it is no doubt that Peugeot 508 sails past all other competitors in its segment for the great performance it has despite being a luxury saloon.
It has a great engine capacity. All of the engine variants are the same HDi mill, but two of them are 1.6-litre trims, three of them are 2.0-litre trims and the last and the most powerful of the lot is a 2.2-litre version. All of the engines are run by diesel. They are turbocharged for optimum power and performance. The 1.6-litre engines have a displacement value of 1560cc. They deliver a peak power and torque of 115hp and 270Nm, giving them enough strength to take on the best of the luxury saloon segment. The 2.0-litre engines have a displacement of 1997cc, alongside a peak power and torque of around 160hp and 370Nm. The last trim, the 2.2-litre HDi trim, is well ahead of the rest, with a displacement of 2197cc, and a maximum power and torque of 150hp and a road gnashing 450Nm. All of this power is funneled with perfect alignment to the vehicle's needs through an efficient 6 speed manual gearbox in some variants, and a 6 speed automatic in a few others. As for the technical grounds behind performance, the 1.6-litre engine has a top speed of 193 kmph and an acceleration of 12.4 seconds. As for the 2.0-litre mill, it raises the handles with a top speed of 209 kmph and an acceleration of around 10 seconds. The 2.2-litre engine flies above the rest, handling a top speed of 230 kmph and an acceleration that stuns at around 8 seconds.
The luxury saloon treats all facets of its inner build with the best of features. It ensures that luxury and performance are both welded in one piece for the passengers but, at the same time, the cornerstone that is fuel savings, isn’t left out either. And that is where the artistic make of the Peugeot 508 comes to play. As mentioned earlier, the vehicle comes with a range of engine trims. But the specifics of the engines revolve around three major keynotes, a 1.6-litre HDi engine, a 2.0-litre HDi engine and a final 2.2-litre one of the same brand. All of them strengthen the car’s mileage and fuel savings, but the 1.6-litre trim goes many extra miles with an astounding fuel consumption of just 4.3-litre for 100km. In the case of the 2.0-litre trims, the value drops to 4.2 litres taken up for a length of 100km. The final engine, a mass performer, consumes 5.5-litre to take the car through a 100km stretch.
As mentioned before, the car is available in multiple variants, and as a result, it has a range of engines as well. However, the general range that the engine trims deliver is within the same spectrum. All of the engines are HDi trims. All of them are also diesel powered. The first two engines are 1.6-litre engines, and they have a displacement value of 1560cc, which is rather good for the segment that the car falls into. The second two mills are 2.0-litre versions of the same engine, and these rake up a displacement value at 1997cc. The final and the most powerful engine variant is a 2.2-litre variant, and this thumps all others with a value of 2197cc. Coming to the power and the torque, the 1.6-litre mills manage a maximum power of 115hp and a maximum torque value of 270Nm, and this is a rather tall feat for a luxury saloon. The 2.0-litre engines heave the bars even further, deliver a maximum power between 140hp and 160hp and a maximum torque between 320Nm and 370Nm. The final variant, the 2.2-litre HDi trim, delivers a peak power of 150hp and a peak torque that astounds at 450Nm. All of these values are mere glimpses of the true might that lay beneath the hood of this car, a landmark achievement for the class of luxury saloons not only in terms of comfort and convenience, but in terms of daring speed and performance.
This is a luxury saloon that does not fall short on any of its needs to project comfort and sophistication inside it. A DAB radio system seals the stereo and musical experience of the vehicle. This is further honed to the finest with the help of an advanced Bluetooth feature. The car has front and rear parking aid that hands comfort with safety. A satellite navigation feature is a true boon to the interior needs. All of this is displayed through a 7 inch multi-color touch screen for optimum perfection on its play. Beside this, the vehicle's seating is also advanced and sophisticated. The seats are accessorized with the most premium upholstery, and complete on lumbar function and heating function. They are also electrically adjustable, and all other standard requirements are therefore fulfilled.
This truly is a spectacular build in terms of size, elegance, comfort and performance, but all of this is meant to go alongside the best braking and control system. And this model does not fall short of this requirement. It is cutting-edge on all braking and suspension requirements befalling vehicles of the day. Front and rear discs arm the brakes, making for a good hold when in need of stopping. In addition, it has an advanced steel spring suspension that gives it the best control. The front suspension is gifted with a pseudo McPherson strut with helical springs and dampers. The rear suspension has multi-arm with helical springs and multi-valve dampers. In addition to all of this, this vehicle ventures into the technological frontier to bring the best control and handling aid to its driver. It has the standard anti lock braking system and electronic brake force distribution to enable smoother braking and handling. In addition to this, emergency braking assistance is an added feature that perfects the car's handling. All of this is further topped off with an electronic stability program and traction control (ESP and ASR). Dynamic stability control seals the vision that the manufacturer has for the technologically aided safety within this car.
The vehicle puts itself on a high banner only by locking in the highest safety requirements locked in. It has tight seatbelts holding its passengers down always, in addition to airbags shielding them at all times. It has a tough body format, built for resisting collisions and absorbing impacts as far as possible. In addition to this, it has technological aids that bring a firmer control and prevent mishaps before they occur. Anti lock braking system and electronic brake force distribution is built into the management system of the car, bringing a firmer hold on control always, and preventing mishaps before they occur. But this vehicle has unique features coming from the halls of its own brand of engineering, to further secure its passengers. With all of this and far more, safety for the passengers is stamped and delivered with nothing at all left to hang loose. Beside just the safety, the security of this expensive vehicle is ensured. An ultrasonic alarm raises the security of the car.
It has standard 17 inch alloy wheels, and they are guarded by large and imposing fenders. The tyres are also premium brands tyres, ensuring that elegance and quality is shielded by safety always.

Peugeot has been fighting hard through the economic crisis in Europe. As a result of which PSA Peugeot Citroen had to surrender its 600-acre land at Sanand, Gujarat where they were planning to set up a manufacturing unit. The company had planned to invest nearly Rs. 4,000 crore in the manufacturing unit but for now, their plans in India have been laid off for some time.
Peugeot is now ready to step into the compact sedans and hatchbacks segment of the Indian car market very soon. The French automaker is planning to challenge India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki followed by Hyundai Motors, who is the second largest car manufacturer in the Indian car bazaar. Apparently, Peugeot is expected to bring in few small cars, including compact sedans and hatchbacks into the Indian car market as soon as its assembly plant in Sanand Gujarat is ready. In its headquarters, Peugeot has already begun working on these hatchbacks.
As per reports Peugeot might enter India through the CBU route and while the company may have held back some of their investments, this is not going to have an effect over the CBU plans. Peugeot 508 was seen running in Mumbai with Maharashtra registration plates. However the interesting aspect was that Peugeot was running with regular black on white plates suggesting that the company may have already fulfilled homologation formalities. The Peugeot 508 is a 4.8 metre long sedan which will compete against Skoda Superb, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.
