The Skoda India is ready to launch its all-new Skoda Octavia in India on the 3rd of October 2013. Well, the most exciting factors that really impressed me is the fuel efficiency and more interior space. This vehicle is developed on the Volkswagen?s new MQB platform, as a result, has an extra 8cm in the wheelbase, a bigger cabin and more balanced looks. The diesel variant of Octavia got excellent driving quality, decent mileage, good performance and amazing looks. This vehicle looks stunning and the butterfly with the new Skoda badge adds a different appeal to the front end. The company has kept the rear very simple, keeping the similarity with their current model. The wheelbase got longer and the haunch of the car has been raised, which offers more headroom in the rear. The interior cabin is simple and the seating comfort is bad. The model that I took for a test drive was the diesel version and it is blessed with a 2.0-liter TDI engine. This engine churns out 140bhp and 320Nm of torque. This diesel engine mated to either a six-speed manual transmission and offers a decent mileage of 20kmpl, when driven under condition. This vehicle is extremely easy and fun to drive. The driving quality is simple superb, amazing handling and the braking performance is also satisfactory. This vehicle is perfectly balanced with a good suspension system. As far as the safety and comfort features are concerned, it is equipped with dual zone AC climate control system, rear AC vents, electric driver seats, sunroof and airbags. Finally, the new Skoda Octavia is a wonderful car to drive and it comes with a price tag Rs. 20 lakhs (Ex-showroom, Mumbai). This vehicle got more inside space than its rivals, lots of features, excellent performance and economy and also got some drawbacks such as noisy diesel engine and unexciting interior design.
