Zest Revotron 1.2T XE Review

Tata Motors, one of the largest automakers in India has officially launched a brand new compact sedan, Zest in the car bazaar. This sub 4-meter sedan is available in four petrol and five diesel variants for the buyers to choose from. Among these, Tata Zest Revotron 1.2T XE is the entry level petrol variant that is equipped with a newly developed Revotron 1193cc engine. This entry level variant is bestowed with several advanced features like an electric power steering featuring active return function, manual air conditioning system and manual central locking facility. This entry level trim also gets segment's first styling aspects like projector headlamps, stylish alloy wheels and elegant LED tail lamps. These aspects brings an asserting appearance to its exteriors and makes it look stylish in its segment. At the same time, its interiors are done up in Java Black and Latte color scheme, which is complimented by a lot of aluminum inserts. The car maker is currently offering this compact sedan in six exterior paint options, which includes Buzz Blue, Dune Beige, Venetian Red, Pristine White, Sky Grey and Platinum Silver. This latest sub 4-meter sedan is also available with a standard 3-year or 100,000 kilometers warranty, which can be extended for another three years of 45,000 kilometers at an extra cost.

Exteriors:

The external appearance of this newly introduced sedan looks very elegant, thanks to its contemporary exterior features. Its front facade gets a signature new radiator grille that has a black perforated mesh, which is embedded with the company's logo. It is surrounded by an elegantly crafted headlight cluster that is equipped with powerful projector headlamps and turn indicators. Its front bumper has a rugged structure as it is fitted with a black protective cladding and an air dam. The overall look of the front is complimented by four expressive lines on its given bonnet. Its side profile has standard aspects like body colored door handles, ORVM caps and black B pillars. In addition to these, its wing mirrors are integrated with LED turn indicators, which enhances its elegance, while providing additional safety. Surprisingly, this entry level trim is also bestowed with a set of 15-inch stylish alloy wheels, which are covered with 185/60 R15 sized tubeless radial tyres. Its rear profile has a decent appearance where it is equipped with stylish taillight cluster. It is powered by high intensity LED brake lights and turn indicators along with a courtesy lamp. The bumper is in a dual tone color scheme, thanks to the black protective cladding affixed under it. The overall look of its rear is emphasized by a horizontally positioned chrome appliqué and company's badged embedded on boot lid.

Interiors:

The internal cabin of this Tata Zest Revotron 1.2T XE comes with a Latte and Java Black color scheme. There is a lot of space available inside, which can provide comfortable seating for five passengers. This vehicle has a large wheelbase of 2470mm and 1706mm of overall width, which assures good head and shoulder room inside. Although, it is the entry level trim, it comes fitted with "Rugby" shoulder seats, which provides unmatched seating comfort for the occupants. Its dashboard has an enchanting design, which is further decorated with aluminum inserts. It is equipped with aspects like a storage box, AC unit, and an advanced instrument panel. It is further incorporated with a segmented multi-info display that provides information regarding driver's seat belt buzzer, gearshift indicator, individual door open display, distance to empty info, digital fuel guage and fuel consumption display.

Engine and Performance:

This entry level variant is powered by a newly developed 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine that is based on DOHC valve configuration. It comprises of 4-cylinders, each of which have 4-valves that displaces 1193cc. It is further incorporated with a turbocharging unit, which allows the vehicle to deliver a maximum power of 88.76bhp at 5000rpm that helps in generating a peak torque output of 140Nm in the range of 1750 to 3500rpm. This advanced engine is skilfully coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox that delivers the torque output to its front wheels. At the same time, this mill allows the vehicle to deliver a maximum mileage of 18 Kmpl, which is somewhat satisfying.

Braking and Handling:

Its front axle is fitted with dual-path independent McPherson strut accompanied by anti roll bar, while the rear axle is fitted with Twist beam type of suspension. In addition to these, both the axles have been loaded with coil springs, which augments the suspension mechanism. On the other hand, it is integrated with an advanced electric power assisted steering system including speed related and active return function. It supports a minimum turning radius of 5.1-meters, which simplifies the handling of this vehicle. As far as the braking is concerned, its front wheels have been fitted with disc brakes and the rear ones have drum brakes, which work efficiently in all weather conditions.

Comfort Features:

This Tata Zest Revotron 1.2T XE is the entry level variant, but it still gets some important comfort features. Its cabin is fitted with a manually operated AC unit including heater, which regulates the air temperature inside. This trim also has features like electric power steering with tilt adjustment, manual central locking facility, front power windows, foldable key, front sun visors with passenger's side vanity mirror, fabric seat upholstery and drink holders. This trim is also bestowed with a segmented multi-info display, which provides several notifications and buzzers for driver.

Safety Features:

This entry level variant is bestowed with an advanced engine immobilizer device, which protects the vehicle from unauthorized access. On the other hand, its body is built with a high strength steel material that includes crumple zones and impact protection beams, which safeguards the occupants inside from accidents. At the same time, it comes with aspects like powerful halogen headlamps, inside rear view mirror, LED turn indicators on ORVMs, tubeless radial tyres and dual horn, which adds to its safety.
