Xylo H4 Review

Mahindra and Mahindra is the India's largest utility vehicle manufacturer, which has several popular models in its portfolio including the Xylo. In a bid to improve its sales, the company has launched its refurbished version in the automobile market. This multi utility vehicle has received minor updates in terms of almost every aspect. It is now equipped with a new 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, which is capable of producing a maximum power of 120bhp and a commanding torque output of 280Nm. At the same time, it is also mated with an indigenously developed 5MT320 five speed manual transmission gearbox. This MUV is available in several trim levels for the buyers to choose from among which, Mahindra Xylo H4 is the mid range trim. This variant gets a few interior updates in the form of a new black and beige color scheme. In terms of exteriors, this trim did not get any update as the changes are made only to the top end variants. Being a mid range trim, it is equipped with several important comfort features like a digital clock, dual front sun visors, HVAC unit and power windows. The car maker has also incorporated an advanced engine immobilizer unit and provided a provision for integrating ABS with EBD, which improves the safety quotients. This MUV is available with a standard warranty of 2-years or 50000 kilometers, which can be extended for another 3-years or 75000 kilometers.

Exteriors:

The car maker has not given any exterior updates to this variant, but it still looks quite attractive. Its front facade has a large radiator grille with black finish and is accompanied by the company's stylish logo. It is flanked by hawk-wing shaped headlight cluster, which gives an aggressive stance to the front profile. The bonnet is quite small but it equipped with a pair of intermittent wipers and washer, which adds to the convenience. The front body colored bumper has a pair of air ducts and a wide air dam that provides better air intake for engine cooling. The side profile has masculine wheel arches, which are quipped with a set of conventional 15-inch steel wheels featuring full wheel covers. Its doors are fitted with black colored handles along with adjustable wing mirrors. Furthermore, it gets a few styling aspects like wheel arch claddings, pillars with Black finish, side stepper, and sporty roof rails. Its rear profile has a decent look owing to its stylish taillight cluster, which is equipped with high intensity brake light, courtesy lamp and turn indicator. It has an overall length of 4520mm along with a decent with of 1850mm and an impressive height of 1905mm. Its ground clearance measures at jus t186mm but the wheelbase is quite long with 2760mm.

Interiors:

This Mahindra Xylo H4 trim has a spacious cabin, which accommodates at least seven passengers. Its gets a new premium black and beige color scheme, which gives it a refreshing look. It offers a comfortable seating arrangement with individual seats in the front row. Its second row is fitted with front facing bench seat, while the third row is equipped with side facing seats. Its dashboard has an attractive dual tone color scheme wherein its center bezel gets a black color scheme. It houses several advanced equipments including an instrument cluster, AC unit and several other ergonomically positioned control switches. The car maker has also updated the steering wheel with a refined color scheme and is now decorated with company's insignia. The leg and knee room inside is quite good owing to its long wheelbase. There are several utility based features provided inside the tachometer, a large glove compartment, a digital clock and also a digital odometer.

Engine and Performance:

This variant is equipped with a 2.2 litre mHAWK diesel engine that has common rail diesel engine technology. It comprises of 4-cylinders, 16-valves, which displaces 2179cc. It also has a turbocharger, which allows it to produce a maximum power of 120bhp at 4000rpm in combination with a commanding torque output of 280Nm at 2400rpm to 2800rpm. This engine is now coupled with a new 5-speed 5MT320 manual transmission gearbox that delivers the torque output to the front wheels. The car maker claims that the vehicle can deliver a mileage of approximately 11.6 Kmpl on city roads while producing a maximum of 14.02 Kmpl on highways. It takes about 14 to 15 seconds for this MUV to break a 100 Kmph speed mark and it can achieve a top speed of approximately 155 Kmph, which is rather good.

Braking and Handling:

This mid range vehicle is blessed with a proficient braking mechanism with discs in the front and drum brakes for the rear wheels. The car maker has now bestowed this vehicle with a new comfort drive technology with comfort suspension, which offers excellent driving experience. Its front axle is fitted with a double wishbone type independent front suspension, while the rear axle is paired with multi link system featuring coil springs. This MUV is also integrated with an advanced power assisted system, which offers precise response and reduces the efforts required by the driver.

Comfort Features:

This Mahindra Xylo H4 is the mid range variant, which is bestowed with standard set of comfort features. Its dashboard is fitted with a proficient air conditioning unit with AC vents in front and rear, which keeps the entire ambiance pleasant. Its cabin is equipped with several number of features including courtesy lamp, dual front sun visors, mobile charging point, roof console for sunglass holder and a digital clock. It also has features like power steering with tilt adjustment, central locking system, power windows, an illuminated key ring, rear seat headrests, remote fuel lid opener and a floor console.

Safety Features:

This MUV has a rigid body structure and chassis, which is made with high strength materials. It includes side impact protection beams and crumple zones, which safeguards the occupants in case of any accident. It also has a list of safety aspects include central locking system, power door locks, an inside rear view mirror with day and night effect, halogen headlamps, seat belts, and an engine immobilizer.
