Hyundai Verna Fluidic 1.4 VTVT

With the slogan of “New Thinking New Possibilities.”, Hyundai India Limited launched the Verna in India in May 2011, and has got an overwhelming response since then. This latest model redefines luxury and style along with the power. Hyundai Verna Fluidic 1.4 VTVT is expected to give tough competition to cars in the same class. This coupe has been designed to suit a sporty profile and is said that it has certain elements that have been inspired by nature. The overall outer look and interiors are of best quality, it will definitely leave an impression on first look. Also with marvelous technology and advanced safety features this Hyundai Verna sedan is certainly a revolution ahead. This is a petrol variant and is powered by a 1.4L petrol engine. It may be the base variant of the Verna series but it comes loaded with many numerous features. On the safety side, it may not be the best option but it does have some of them. The interiors have also been designed to give a refreshing look and appeal. For the comfort and convenient part, Hyundai has introduced some new features such as illuminated switches, information display, shift indicator, alternator management system. To sum up it is a good option in C+ segment cars.       

Exteriors

The Hyundai Verna 1.4 VTVT is based on the Hyundai RB concept. And it comes in 6 color variants namely Sleek Silver, Carbon Grey, Stone Beige, Phantom Black, Crystal White and Purple Fantasia. Talking about the outer dimensions they are as follows, the overall length, width and height is 4370mm X 1700mm and 1475mm respectively. And the wheelbase is of 1570mm, the front track and the rear track are 1495mm and 1502mm. There are very limited things added in this base variant but the features added gets a satisfactory job done. The dual muffler and front grille has been chrome tipped to give a shining look. Both the bumpers and outside door handles are body coloured. And there are body colored outside rear view mirrors with LED turn indicators. Some other exterior features include tubeless tyres , full wheel cover, fog lights and black out tapes on door.  To give a sporty look, this car also has dual exhaust pipes which are chrome finished. Also the headlamps resemble the shape of eagle eye which provided optimum illumination at night and a touch of luxury in daytime. 

Interiors

Just like the outer appearance of the car, one is sure to fall in love with the interiors of all new Hyundai Verna 1.4 VTVT. The interior trim is made up of very stylish yet comfortable fabric. The dual tone interior looks amazing and also supports a number of small things such as cup holders, armrest, digital clock, door trim fabric, tachometer etc. The interior also has a hint of blue illumination which is very useful at night time. Plus there are power windows with many controls present on the driver side. Head restraints, glove compartment, digital odometer, electronic multi trip meter, air conditioner cum heater are some other utilities that come fitted in the car.    

Engine and Performance

Hyundai Verna 1.4 VTVT possesses one of the best powerhouse engines that are in the same category. It has a 1.4 VTVT petrol engine with 4 cylinders and 16 valves which provides optimum efficiency and maximum power without any compromise. This powerful engine can generate an impressive maximum power output of 105.5 at the rate of 6300rpm and the maximum torque of 135.33Nm at the rate of 5000rpm. Both these figures look very good mainly due to the fact that this is just a base variant but still offers this level of performance. It also has a 5 speed gearbox transmission which doesn’t look too good in theory but in practicality it certainly outshines with its acceleration and quick gear change. This is a front wheel drive. It also has the best in segment fuel economy of 17.43kmpl (ARAI). The engine is specifically designed to give a dynamic performance . One downside is that the engine is neither super charged nor turbo charged.

Braking and Handling

Hyundai Verna 1.4 VTVT has a very good duo of brakes as well as suspension system. Besides performing well on roads and highways, it can survive in the extreme conditions also. The front brakes are the disc brakes while the rear ones are the usual drum brakes, so nothing new in here . The front suspension is a McPherson struts which has coil spring while the rear suspension has a couple torsion with beam axle. The shock absorber is also of good quality with gas type.  The tyres are obviously tubeless and of size 185/65 R15 with 15 being in inches which provide a decent turning radius of 5.2m

Safety features

As the Hyundai Verna 1.4 VTVT is the basic model, not much is expected in the safety department but still Hyundai was able to add some safety features. The front fog lamps produce a wide, bar shaped beam of light in foggy conditions to improve the road visibility. Also the clutch lock system is a good feature which doesn’t allows the ignition until the clutch is pressed so to prevent jerk start. The central locking system, child safety locks, central locking, and the immobilizer are some other safety features.  There are side impact beams present but no front beams for protection from the sides of the car. Another good addition is the centrally mounted fuel tank so that it shall be protected in case of any crash either from front or from side.

Comfort features

Hyundia has certainly done their homework in the comfort area. Some of the comfort features include electrically adjustable ORVM’s, driver information display, tilt functioning steering, back seat pockets, vanity mirrors, and many other things also. Also one thing worth mentioning is that Hyundai Verna 1.4 VTVT comes with a shift indicator in manual transmission model which is a great for saving fuel and for gaining quick acceleration also. There is also very efficient alternator management system. The AC is very powerful and can brought chills too. Plus the 2 DIN music system which comes with 4 speakers and tweeters works very well . And the audio system has an AUX in and USB connectivity too.
