The door pull inlays are typically finished in leather, they represent the right blend of design and functionality. In the Boxster S, the door armrests and the center console storage compartment lid are also finished in leather thereby imparting it an even plusher feel.

The interior materials are high-quality, and the refined tone is enhanced by the use of silver-colored details which are found on the dashboard trim strip, the center console, the door pulls, the glove compartment release lever, the side and center air vent surrounds and the model designation plaque on the center console. With the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), it achieves the 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) sprint in 5.7 seconds and a reaches a maximum speed of 262 km/h (162 mph). In conjunction with the optional Sport Chrono Package, the sprint time is reduced further to just 5.5 seconds.

Boxster S

The Boxster S is powered by a 3.4-litre flat-six engine with direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus. It develops 232 kW (315 hp) at 6,700 rpm and the maximum torque of 360 Nm is produced between 4,500 rpm and 5,800 rpm.

The new Boxster S with six-speed manual gearbox races from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 5.1 seconds and achieves a top speed of 279 km/h (173 mph). With optional PDK, an acceleration time of 5.0 seconds and a maximum speed of 277 km/h (172 mph) are attained. In conjunction with the optional Sport Chrono Package, the Boxster S with PDK finishes the sprint in a mere 4.8 seconds.

Porsche Boxster Exteriors

The Boxster reflects a completely new interpretation of the roadster concept as it ushers in new and forward-looking design ethos, yet takes the legacy forward by incorporating things which need no change. For example the vertical contour of the headlights which has been inherited from the racing cars of the 60s and the large, imposing air intakes which give the front a powerful appearance.

The exclusive door styling reflects recent design developments. The unique contouring improves airflow to the side air intakes. The exterior mirrors are mounted directly on the doors for impressive aerodynamics and low wind noise. Precise lines, which run elegantly across the wings to the rear, make the new Boxster uniquely imposing among other models.

The rear wing is impressive as it deploys automatically to reduce lift and also gives the rear a stunning appearance. The narrow direction indicators appear to extend the rear wing further. Aerodynamics and aesthetics are applied to a high level to ensure comfort as also the beauty of the vehicle. The spoiler separation edge makes a clean, seamless transition to the chic LED tail lights. Each taillight flanks the central brake light and accentuates the entire unit. The reversing light and rear fog light are arranged in the middle underneath the rear wing. The diffuser with stainless-steel tailpipe (dual-tube on the Boxster S) integrated into the center, adds finesse to the powerfully designed rear end.

The side contour looks thrilling, while the long wheel base and low, raked windscreen are integral in shaping the stretched, wedge-shaped silhouette. With the hood closed, this impression is reinforced by the extremely sportive roofline. Large wheels make for a stylish addition to the classy roadster. These emphasize the cars wide track and help to achieve a completely new level of athletic performance.

Porsche Boxster Interior

The interior of the new Boxster models is nothing less than what the exteriors promise. Light, uncluttered and neatly defined for the perfect drive on power packed adventures. The entire concept is drawn to suit the driver’s comfort and ease of operation.

The central console is elevated to aid in quick ergonomic gear shifts during power drives. The door styling is similarly dynamic to match the overall theme. The door pulls match the lines of the center console and blend seamlessly into the distinctive interior design. The athletic proportions of the Boxster makes the driver sits low down on sports seats which are fitted as standard. The three-spoke sports steering wheel is positioned in a way to suit the driver. As is typical of a Boxster, there are three dashboard instruments of which the instrument on the right is a 4.6-inch TFT screen. The steering wheel rim, gear lever and door pull inlays are upholstered in leather. Silver-colored details add to the refined tone of the interiors.

Porsche Boxster Engine and Performance

Boxster

The Boxster comes fitted with a 2.7-litre flat-six engine with direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus. It generates 195 kW (265 hp) of power at 6,700 rpm. The maximum torque of 280 Nm is available over a broad engine range of 4,500 rpm to 6,500 rpm.

The new Boxster with six-speed manual gearbox accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 5.8 seconds and attains a top speed of 264 km/h (164 mph).

Thermal Management

The Boxster models feature a new version of thermal management to reduce losses due to friction. The cross-flow cooling system supplies each cylinder with coolant which protects the valves from extra heating and subsequent damages. As a welcome consequence, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are reduced. A high level of performance is thus maintained and noise is considerably reduced.

Auto Start/Stop Function

The auto start/stop function, which is integrated in the new Boxster, switches off the engine when you stop, select neutral and release the clutch pedal. In cars with Doppelkupplung (PDK), it is simply a case of applying and holding the brake. All audio and communication systems remain switched on and the engine restarts as soon as the clutch is operated or, in cars with PDK, brake is released. This fuel-saving innovation is designed primarily for use within the city. The auto start/stop function can be deactivated and reactivated.

Electrical System Recuperation

For enhanced efficiency the new Boxster models are equipped with intelligent electrical system recuperation. The vehicle battery is recharged by the generator predominantly under braking. Thanks to this selective recharging, when you request full driving power the maximum possible output can be directed straight to the road.

Gearbox

The new Boxster models are equipped as standard with a lightweight six-speed manual gearbox. Gearshifts are smooth and optimally adapted to the respective engine map. The up shift indicator located in the central circular instrument helps to maximize fuel efficiency.

Available as an option for the new Boxster models is a completely retuned 7-speed Doppelkupplung (PDK), featuring both manual and automatic modes. PDK offers extremely fast gear changes with no interruption in the flow of power, improved acceleration, very short response time, reduced fuel consumption and a distinct increase in comfort.

Wheels

Porsche Boxster Wheels

Big wheels of up to 20 inches are available in chrome finish but eighteen-inch wheels now come as standard.

Braking & Handling

Porsche Boxster DashBoard

Porsche brakes set standards worldwide for their stopping power and stability. For the new Boxster models, braking performance is as essential as driving performance as it adds credibility to the Porsche brand name.

Both Boxster and Boxster S are equipped with four-piston aluminium monobloc fixed calipers at the front and rear. This design means that the brakes are light weight for a particularly fast and sensitive braking response.

The new generation of brake caliper at the front axle, combined with enlarged brake pads and the newly developed brake booster, has managed to improve braking and component stability even during continuous use which results in overheating and lower efficiency. These two characteristics have also been made possible by the newly developed brake ventilation system with a modified air spoiler at the front and rear axles.

Handling & Safety

Lights are always a part of the overall styling of the car but they invariably are an essential safety feature. The Boxster is fitted with clear glass halogen headlights. The Boxster S is equipped with Bi-Xenon headlights. On both models, LED daytime running lights and position lights are fitted in the auxiliary light unit above the outer air intakes. LEDs provide powerful illumination, respond extremely quickly to the driver input and offer a longer life. Not only are LEDs capable of fulfilling all the functions of the imposing taillights and third brake light, they are integral to safety and also add to the unique, stunning looks of the roadster.

Porsche Dynamic Light System

The optional Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), which comprises Bi-Xenon headlights with halogen main-beam headlights, a headlight cleaning system and automatic dynamic range control, provides uniform illumination of the track at both high and low beam modes. The dynamic cornering light function focuses the main headlights towards the inside of a bend so that the road ahead is illuminated the moment the car enters the bend.

The system also includes a speed-sensitive headlight range control function. With adaptive light systems, it makes possible for the maximum range of the dipped beams and their lighting power to be adjusted in accordance with the speed of the vehicle. PDLS does these automatically in two stages. Stage 1 is the basic position, optimized for driving at low speeds such as in city traffic. Stage 2 is designed for driving at faster speeds, such as when on the highway. Another function of PDLS is the adverse weather function. Activated when you switch on the rear fog light, it reduces the effect of the reflection phenomenon in poor visibility conditions.

Automatic Headlight Activation

In the new Boxster models, automatic headlight activation is available as standard. The system automatically switches between daytime running lights and dipped beam depending upon the ambient lighting conditions.

Enhanced Porsche Stability Management (PSM) is fitted as standard. This system automatically maintains stability even at the limits of dynamic driving performance. Sensors continuously monitor the speed, yaw velocity and lateral acceleration of the car. Using this information, PSM is able to calculate the actual direction of travel at any given moment and if the car begins to oversteer or understeer, PSM applies selective braking on individual wheels in order to restore stability of the roadster. Under acceleration on wet or low-grip road surfaces, PSM improves traction – as well as agility and safety – using the automatic brake differential (ABD) and antislip regulation (ASR). Integrated ABS is designed to minimize braking distances.

PSM can be switched off for those who don’t prefer extra mechanical intervention during sporty drives. For the passengers’ safety, however, ABS and ABD remain switched on at all times. Also included with PSM are engine drag torque control (EDC), precharging of the brake system and brake assist. Maximum braking power is therefore achieved in a much shorter time. Brake assist detects a panic braking situation and generates the brake pressure required for maximum deceleration.

Airbags

To protect the driver and passenger, the new Boxster models are equipped with full-size airbags, which are inflated in two stages depending on the severity and type of accident (e. g. frontal or offset frontal). In less serious accidents, the airbags are only partially inflated, thereby minimizing discomfort to the occupants.

In addition to the central airbag control unit on the transmission tunnel, a pair of impact sensors is located near the headlights. This allows a crash to be detected and evaluated sooner and with considerably greater accuracy.

Porsche Side Impact Protection System (POSIP)

Both Boxster and Boxster S models are equipped with the Porsche Side Impact Protection System (POSIP) as standard. It comprises two side airbags on each side. An integral thorax airbag is located in the outer side bolster of each seat, while the door panels each contain an upwards-inflating head airbag. Each thorax airbag has a volume of 10 liters and each head airbag 15 liters, ensuring excellent protection in the event of a side impact even with the hood open. POSIP additionally includes steel side impact protection elements in the doors.

Anti theft protection

Both new Boxster models are equipped as standard with an immobilizer with in-key transponder and an alarm system with contact sensitive exterior protection. A radar-based interior surveillance system enhances protection with the closed hood. A combined alarm and radar-based interior surveillance system is available as an option for the Boxster. The package includes a special wiring loom and a tilt sensor for the alarm system. This preparation enables future installation of the Porsche Vehicle Tracking System (PVTS) which makes it possible to locate a stolen vehicle across the network.

Stereo & Accessories in Porsche Boxster

The optional BOSE Surround Sound System really strikes a chord with the music enthusiasts. It can also be combined with optional Porsche Communication Management (PCM) or the CDR audio system which enables audio playback of DVDs. This high-end audio system comprises eight amplifier channels and 10 loudspeakers with a total output of 445 watts and 5.1 digital sound recordings. A consistently captivating 360° acoustic experience is maintained in all driving conditions, courtesy the BOSE patented Audio Pilot noise compensation technology.

A universal audio interface for PCM and CDR enables the CDR audio system to be appended by an auxiliary interface installed in the glove compartment. In conjunction with optional PCM, a USB port is included to enable connection of the iPod or a USB stick, which can be controlled conveniently and safely using PCM, the steering wheel. Audio settings can also be customized using the CDR or PCM.

The luxury car maker Porsche’s CEO Mr. Matthias Muller has recently mentioned that the company’s plans of introducing an inexpensive, small entry level model have been scraped. This means that the Indian car market will not get to witness the baby version of the Porsche Boxter. Mr. Muller stated to a German Magazine that dropping the idea of a cheaper and small model would not be productive for the company as it would dilute the brand and would also estrange the traditional customers of the brand, who buy Porsche not only for superb performance but also for the prestige and status it brings.
