BMW has unveiled all-new 4-Series Convertible, which is set to launch at the LA motor show scheduled to happen next month. The basic look quite a lot resembles to that of coupe, except the few changes made to make it look distinguishable and unique, that includes the retractable roof and rest others. Only two different variants of the BMW 4 Series Convertible will be available- 428i and 435i. The 428i model features BMW's own popular TwinPower Turbo 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, while the 435i model gets another one of the company' s renowned TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter inline six cylinder mill fitted under its hood. Both of these powerful engines are mated with 8-speed automatic transmission, and in case of 428i Convertible there is an option with rear-wheel drive and with optional xDrive i.e. BMW's highly configures all-wheel drive system. But as of now, the German manufacturers will put the 435i model at the launch event which will sport the rear wheel drive to it. The 2014 BMW 4 Series Convertible will be made available at US showrooms in the first quarter of 2014. As far as pricing is concerned, the vehicle will show up with the base model priced at $49,675 (Rs. 30 lakh) and the 435i Convertible will be priced at $55,825 (Rs. 34 lakh). The prices for both models include destination and handling cost of $925.
The new BMW 4 Series Convertible is considerably larger in wheelbase and width than the current BMW 3 Series in the market. While the length has been extended which somehow gives a stretched silhouette to the car and sits lower to the road. To add to the visual appeal, the coupe is adores BMW-typical short overhangs, an extended bonnet and set-back passenger compartment with flowing roofline. The most striking part is the front end of the car, which is defined with amazing design features like double-kidney grille, round front headlamps and a large air intake in the front apron. The additional elements added to the new BMW 4 Series of Air Breathers placed just behind the front wheel arches. These functions to reduce drag as well as in combination with the bold wheel arches, simply adds to the overall stance of the car.
Talking about the efficiency of the 4 Series model, it certainly features top rated equipments that contribute to the better efficiency of the model. The aerodynamics too has its role in the overall contribution of the efficiency of the car, the BMW EfficientDynamics philosophy featuring certain improvements at the design front has resulted into lesser air resistance and fuel consumption. Moving to the interiors of the car, as it comes from a leading luxury car manufacturers, it is definitely expected to house top notch quality features at its interior front. The new 4 Series model includes integrated headrests and seatbelt handovers, Dakota leather seats in black with red accent stitching, interior trim strip in finely brushed aluminum and center console in high-gloss black finish. There's a through-load system concept introduced in the car, which makes the rear seat backrest available with 60:40 split ratio, and opens various usages with respect to seating and luggage compartment. To make it convenient, the car gets a contactless opening tailgate that enables comfort access of the luggage compartment without using a key to open. There are numerous storage spaces available inside the car, compartments in the doors that can accommodate atleast a 1-liter bottle, storage compartment with lid in the front center console, two cup-holders at front and rear, and an open compartment under front center armrest and in rear center console.
The safety features comes with a complete package of advanced equipments that provide proper safety to the occupants. It is designed to minimize the risk of road accidents, therefore, gets high-strength multiphase steel body shell, in the case of side collision there's provision made to provide safety with of reinforced structures in B-pillar and sills, stronger side-impact stabilizers in the doors and a robust cross-members in seat areas.
The prestigious 2014 Geneva Motor Show will mark the global debut of four-door version of BMW 4 Series. This four-door version is named as '4 Series Gran Coupe' slated to be unveiled in the beginning of March 2014 at Geneva Motor Show.
