Mahindra & Mahindra, India's leading utility vehicle maker brings a nine seater Xylo, that makes it the first variant in the Xylo line up to be available with the nine seat option. Named as the Xylo D2 Maxx, it is priced at Rs. 7.12 lakh (BS3, ex-showroom, Mumbai) . With this, the company launches a more convenient way to commute in the semi-urban places of India. There are side facing rear seats, and few changes like newly designed front grille, new bumper with sporty air dams and more prominent wheel arches, all together brings a fresh look to the Xylo D2 Maxx model. It basically targets the tour and travel segment that is meant for passenger movement, along with this the D2 Maxx model is designed with better comfort features. It is designed to offer best-in class space, moreover the low maintenance cost may work in the favor of its sales. The company claims the mileage figure to be 14.95kmpl on highways, while city mileage is measured at 11.4kmpl. The D2 variant is powered with 2.5-liter mDI CRDe engine, that is efficient to put out maximum power output of 93bhp and peak torque of 220Nm.

Exteriors :

Xylo is a hugely built structure that has an impressive masculine looks to it. But with the D2 Maxx variant, the company has gone with more prominent changes at the outsides. The changes comprises of, restyled headlamps , new radiator grille that adds more muscle at the front, new bumper with sporty air dams and bold looking wheel arches make the variant look distinct than the others in the range. Moreover, the grille is sleek with the looks and gets chrome streak beneath the grille, which simply adds to the overall stance of the MPV. The side looks are defined with pronounced wheel arches which bounds 15-inch alloy wheels beneath them. While the rear has received no changes, and exhibits the same wide windscreen and a luminous tail lamp cluster, and a sporty spoiler again.

Interiors :

When it comes to the interior upgrades, the major change has been done with seating arrangement. The Xylo D2 features a nine seater arrangement with side-facing seats, which makes it flexible for carrying people or luggage. The manufacturer has worked smartly with the internal spacing, such that it makes it a comfort ride for all nine passengers, while it turns out to be having best-in-class space in it. These changes make it a good vehicle for the tours and travel segment. Usually this segment vehicles lacks with the comfort levels, but D2 Maxx caters this need also. Other additional features added to D2 variant includes, tilt steering that makes an easy task to ride the vehicle on city roads, mobile charging point and courtesy lamps. Also there are rear AC vents , glove compartment, AC and heater.

Engine and Performance :

Under the hood, the D2 variant sports the 2.5-liter mDI CRDe ,2489 cc , 4 cylinder diesel engine that has the ability to churn out a maximum power output of 93.7bhp at 3600rpm and 220Nm of top torque at 1400-2600rpm. The engine is mated with a five speed manual transmission gearbox, which is mechanized to transmit the power to front wheels. The mDI and CRDe engine set up brings combined benefits of both of these technology in one. With excellent power output, and improved performance, D2 Maxx offers best-in-class mileage with the figures of 14.95kmpl (highway) and 11.4kmpl(city). The engine is BS III standards complaint that ensures low emissions and NVH levels.

Braking and handling :

The braking system comprises of Disc type front brakes, while the rear wheels get drum type brakes. Such advanced brake mechanism enables fast deceleration, and works perfectly even in case of sudden braking event. While the suspension system comprises of Independent coil spring at the front and a multi-link coil spring with EST (Extra Stability Technology) at the rear, which allow an effortless ride even on rough terrain and makes the vehicle rock steady. The tilt steering as the newly added feature serves the need to ride this vehicle with ease on city roads. Now, almost every major car maker provide this particular feature, as somehow this has become a need when riding on Indian roads. Large wheelbase of 2760mm, turning radius of 5.5 meter and ground clearance of 186mm, allows sharp turns with Xylo D2 Maxx.

Comfort Features :

The nine seater Xylo D2 Maxx comes with very convenient features in it. The side-facing rear seats create better space, while the inbuilt is designed with very comfortable headroom and legroom. The PVC seats are again comfortable, and HVAC and surround cool dual AC option provides well suited inside environment. Other comfort features includes tilt steering, power steering steering, illumination ring and remote fuel lid opener . Though the seating capacity has been increased, that does not hamper the internal space, and is very comfortable.

Safety features :

As far as the safety features are concerned, the Xylo D2 Maxx comes with engine immobilizer , halogen headlamps, rear seat belts, passenger side rear view mirror and centrally mounted fuel tank prevents fire in case of accidents.
