Mahindra Xylo is a popular MUV which is doing quite well in the country. It is currently available in several trim levels with a diesel engine as standard under the hood. The Mahindra Xylo D2 BSIII is the base variant, which is powered by a 2.5-litre mDI CRDe diesel engine. It is mated with a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox and complies with Bharat Stage III emission norms. This entry level variant received minor tweaks to its interiors in the form of a new premium black and beige color scheme. Its cabin is also furnished with slightly tweaked flat-bed seats, which provides better comfort to the occupants. Apart from this, all its comfort and convenience features have been retained from its predecessor. The car maker is offering this variant with some of the standard features like dual zone HVAC unit, central locking system and manually operated windows. As far as its safety aspects are concerned, it gets an engine immobilizer device, which prevents any unauthorized access into the vehicle. At present, this MUV is available with a standard 50000 kilometers or 2-years warranty, which can be extended further by one to two years.

Exteriors:

The car maker has not made any cosmetic changes to its exteriors, since it is only the entry level variant. It has a large body structure and yet, it looks quite attractive owing to its trademark features. Its front facade is fitted with a large hawk-wing shaped headlight cluster, which is powered by turn indicators and halogen lamps. In the center, its radiator grille has vertically positioned slats, which are further embedded with company's badge. The black colored front bumper has a wide air dam for engine cooling and a provision for fitting fog lamps. The side profile has masculine wheel arches, which are equipped with a set of 15-inch steel rims. These wheels are covered with tubeless radial tyres of size 205/65 R15, which provides excellent grip on roads. It also has conventional features like black colored door handles external wing mirrors and pillars. Its rear end has a boxy structure featuring a large tailgate and windscreen. It is also embedded with company's logo and variant lettering, which gives it an attractive look. This MUV has a total length of 4520mm along with a decent width of 1850mm and an overall height of 1880mm. It has a long wheelbase of 2760mm and a low ground clearance of 160mm. This entry level variant is now in available with six exterior paint options including Mist Silver, Fiery Black, Java Brown, Toreador Red, Diamond White and Dolphine Grey.

Interiors:

This Mahindra Xylo D2 BSIII trim has gets an attractive premium Black and Beige interior color scheme, which gives it a refined look. Its cabin is also furnished with a slightly tweaked flat-bed seats, which provides better comfort to the occupants. They have integrated headrests and have been covered with PVC seat upholstery. This variant has individual seats in cockpit, bench seat and second row and side facing seats in the third row, which can host at least seven passengers. Its dual tone dashboard is now fitted with a new four spoke black colored steering wheel, which is embedded with chrome plated company's logo. It also houses features like a HVAC unit, a large glove box, and several ergonomically positioned control switches. Its instrument cluster looks quite small, but it has numerous informatics like speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, trip meter and various other warning functions. This entry level variant also has important utility features like dual front sun visors, inside rear view mirror, front center armrest and a large storage box.

Engine and Performance:

This entry level variant is equipped with a powerful 2.5-litre mDI CRDe diesel engine, which complies with Bharat Stage III Emission norms. This motor is based on single overhead camshaft valve configuration with 4-cylinders and 8-valves, which displaces 2489cc . It also has common rail direct fuel injection technology and a turbocharger. This allows it to produce a maximum power of 93.7bhp at 3600rpm and yields a commanding torque output of 218Nm between 1400 to 2600rpm. This power plant is mated with an NGT520V1 5-speed manual transmission gearbox, which sends the torque output to the front wheels. The car maker claims that this motor helps the vehicle to deliver a maximum mileage of 14.95 Kmpl, which is rather good.

Braking and Handling:

This MUV is bestowed with an independent front suspension system with double wishbone type of mechanism. While its rear axle is fitted with a multi-link system including coil springs, which augments the suspension mechanism. As far as its braking is concerned, the front wheels are fitted with a set of sturdy discs, while the rear ones are paired with drum brakes . The manufacturer has incorporated it with a power assisted steering system, which offers excellent response by supporting a minimum turning radius of just 5.5-meters.

Comfort Features:

This Mahindra Xylo D2 BSIII is the entry level variant and yet, it is incorporated with some of the important comfort features. Its cabin is fitted with a dual zone heating, ventilation and AC unit along with rear air vents, which keeps the ambiance cool. Other features include tilt adjustable power steering, manually operated windows, internally adjustable outside mirrors, PVC seat upholstery and a large glove box. Furthermore, it also has illuminated ignition key ring, central locking system, floor console and remote fuel lid opener. The car maker has also integrated features like two courtesy lamps, front sun visors, mobile charging point and a roof mounted console for spectacle holder.

Safety Features:

This base variant is has a reinforced body structure, which includes side impact protection beams and crumple zones. It will reduce the damage caused in case of an accident and thereby protecting the occupants. This trim also has safety features like halogen headlamps, side moldings, tubeless radial tyres, central locking facility, seat belts and high mount third brake light. Furthermore, it is also integrated with an engine immobilizer featuring an encrypted key recognition system, which maximizes its security quotient.

Pros:

1. Engine power and performance is quite good.

2. Refined interior color scheme is a big plus.

Cons:

1. Ground clearance of just 160mm is a big drawback.
