Wagon R 2013-2022 Diesel ವಿಮರ್ಶೆ

There are rumors going round the car market that the Indian automaker, MSIL is planning to introduce a diesel variant of its popular hatchback, Wagon R. However, there is no official word from the company officials regarding the technical specifications or any official launch date of this small car. According to the sources, it is in the process of developing a new 0.8-litre diesel engine, which is expected to be the most fuel efficient in its class. We can expect it to be based on a DOHC valve configuration with three cylinders and 12 valves. According to this configuration, it might produce a maximum power of approximately 50bhp along with a torque of 130Nm. This diesel mill is expected to produce a maximum mileage of approximately 35 Kmpl, which helps it to be an ideal vehicle for budget car buyers. However, there is no official information available regarding any of its technical specifications. At the same time, it could possibly be the most affordable diesel vehicle in the car bazaar. As of now there is no word from the company regarding its price tag as well, but it could be aggressively priced to generate huge sales. This diesel variant is expected to be launched somewhere by the second quarter of 2015, which is still a long time from now. It is also speculated to share the same body platform of its existing variant, but we can expect a few cosmetic updates to make it look distinct. Market sources believe that this speculated version might arrive with a newly designed radiator grille along with modified headlamps and refurbished bumpers. In addition to this, one can also expect it to arrive with a set of stylish alloy wheels, which will certainly it a modernistic look. However, most of these aspects could be given as standard to the top end variant only. As far as its speculated interiors are concerned, its seats along with dashboard, central console and steering wheel are expected to receive a brand new design. At the same time, its driver's seat may get height adjustable facility, which will further add to the competition in this segment.

At present, the petrol version of Wagon R is available in three trim levels, which are LX, LXI and VXI for the buyers to choose from. Hence, the upcoming diesel version is also expected to arrive with same variant nomenclature like its petrol counterpart. Its entry level variant is expected to have all the standard features like a HVAC unit, power steering, front power windows and internally adjustable outside mirrors. While the mid range version can be equipped with other important features like central locking system, good quality fabric upholstery, adjustable headrests and rear power windows. In addition to this, one can also expect a proficient music system with USB and AUX-In connectivity, which will further add to the competition in this segment. On the other hand, its top end variant could be offered with a few advanced aspects like seats with reclining function, electrically adjustable outside mirrors, intermittent front wipers and an adjustable steering column. Furthermore, this small car may also host other features like parking sensors, audio unit with Bluetooth connectivity, push button start, which will further add to its uniqueness in this lucrative hatchback segment.

This diesel variant is most likely to be offered with a five speed manual transmission gearbox, but there are chances of it coming equipped with the highly acclaimed AMT (automatic manual transmission) as well. On the other hand, the company might retain the same suspension mechanism with a McPherson Strut fitted to its front axle and an isolated trailing link equipped to its rear along with coil springs. As far as its braking is concerned, it is expected to get the same ventilated discs for its front wheels along with drum brakes for its rear rims. The anti lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution is most likely to be given as standard for the top end variant. Regarding its safety aspects, it is being said that, this hatchback might be equipped with quite a few features. The list might include aspects like collapsible steering column, 3-point ELR seatbelts, fog lamps, child proof rear door locks and intelligent computerized anti-theft system (iCATS). On the other hand, dual front airbags are expected to be available as optional for its top end variants. Since this is a diesel engine based version, it is expected to be slightly heavier and the ground clearance is expected to be a tad lower than the existing model. As soon as it is launched, this hatchback will certainly give tough competition to the likes of Chevrolet Beat, Ford Figo, Nissan Micra Active and Datsun Go as well. Like any other Maruti car, this yet to be launched diesel version will be offered with a standard warranty of 2 years or 40000 kilometers (whichever is earlier). Buyers might also be able to extend the warranty period further for three years or 60000 kilometers as well.
