Elantra 2015-2016 SX Review

Hyundai Motors India is on a launching spree in the country, as it is bringing back to back models to the country. Few months back it rolled out Elite i20 hatchback and just a few weeks back, it has introduced the facelifted version of Verna. Now, it has introduced the refurbished version of its premium sedan Hyundai Elantra to the auto enthusiasts. It has retained all the four diesel and three petrol variants among which, Hyundai Elantra SX is the mid range variant. It is powered by a 1.8-litre NU mill, which is integrated with dual VTVT technology. Technically, this vehicle remains to be the same like its predecessor, but its styling gets some updates. In terms of exteriors, it gets projector headlamps along with refined taillight cluster that renders it a fresh new look. At the same time, it also gets a set of 10-spoke design alloy wheels along with chrome plated waistline molding, which compliments its modernistic appeal. The insides too gets some new aspects like aluminum pedals along with scuff plates and a modified floor console. On the other hand, this mid range trim gets an updated infotainment system with a new 4.3-inch color touchscreen that offers controls for audio and other functions. This vehicle is currently positioned against the likes of Skoda Octavia, Renault Fluence, Chevrolet Cruze and Toyota Corolla in the Indian automobile market.

Exteriors:

This refurbished version inherits the company's 'Fluidic' design philosophy, which is the main reason for its next-generation appeal. This silhouette is enhanced further with slight refinements made to all its facets. Its frontage gets projector headlamps along with LED guide lamps. At the same time, its bumper is now fitted with modified fog lamps that further enhances its dynamic appeal. Apart from these, its remaining cosmetics remains to be same as its predecessor. Its upper grille is very sleek and it houses an expressive chrome strip and is embedded with company's logo. While the lower grille is quite large and it is designed with glossy black strips. The design of its side facet remains untouched, but its fenders are now fitted with 10-spoke style alloy wheels. Additionally, its waistline molding gets a chrome treatment that adds to its classy silhouette. It has a sleek window frame, whose sills and B pillars are done up in high gloss black. Coming to the rear, its bumper is now fitted with a black colored lower cladding along with a chrome plated exhaust pipe. The design of its taillight cluster remains to be the same, but it gets LED lighting pattern that dazzles this facet. Apart from this, all other aspects have been retained from the outgoing model.

Interiors:

Coming to the interiors, this Hyundai Elantra SX is now blessed with an attractive black color scheme, which is highlighted by brushed metallic inserts. Its pedals including brakes, accelerator and clutch pedals are now garnished with aluminum and door panels are fitted with scuff plated featuring Elantra lettering. The design of its seats are retained, but are now covered with premium quality leather upholstery. Its driver's seat is now blessed with 10-way electrically and lumbar adjustable function that enhances the driving comfort. Its cockpit section gets a modified floor console that is now equipped with cup holders along with a sliding armrest. The dashboard has a very expressive design that houses a beautifully sculptured center fascia. It also has an attractive steering wheel that is mounted with illuminated control switches. This vehicle has a lot of space inside that is good enough to provide a comfortable accommodation to at least five occupants.

Engine and Performance:

The manufacturer has fitted this Hyundai Elantra SX trim with a 1.8-litre petrol engine that displaces 1797cc. It is also incorporated with VTVT technology that enhances its overall performance. It is a 4-cylinder mill that is based on double overhead camshaft valve configuration. This power plant is capable of unleashing a maximum power of 147.5bhp at 6500rpm that results in a hammering torque of 177.5Nm at just 4700rpm. This engine is mated with a six speed manual transmission gearbox that allows its front wheels to extract torque output. This mill enables the motor to give away a peak mileage of approximately 16.3 Kmpl. With this motor, this sedan can reach a top speed in the range of 195 Kmph and can break the 100 Kmph mark in about 12 seconds.

Braking and Handling:

The automaker has bestowed this vehicle with superior disc braking mechanism for all its four wheels, which are further loaded with sturdy brake calipers. At the same time, the manufacturer has also incorporated the anti lock braking system and electronic brake force distribution that further augments its performance, especially in rainy conditions. Its front axle is fitted with McPherson strut along with coil springs and the rear one gets coupled torsion beam suspension system, which helps it to be stable on roads. This trim is also blessed with electronic stability program and vehicle stability management, which helps to improve the traction and keeps the vehicle agile. Comfort Features: This refined Hyundai Elantra SX trim is being offered as a mid range variant, which is loaded with a slew of sophisticated comfort aspects. It has features including day/night inside rear view mirror, alternator management system, safety escort headlamps, power windows with one touch operation, sunglass holders, driver seat back pocket, rear center armrest with storage box and sliding front center armrest. Beside these, it also has electrically adjustable and foldable outside mirrors with heating function, multi-functional steering wheel, rear parking camera with display on ECM and solar glass for windscreen and windows. The manufacturer has also updated its infotainment system by incorporating it with a 4.3-inch touchscreen display that offers various controls for the audio system. This 2-DIN unit also has connectivity features like USB port, AUX-In socket, Bluetooth and iPod connectivity. Additionally, it also gets four speakers and two tweeters, which delivers superior sound quality.

Safety Features:

The manufacturer has not compromised on the safety aspects of this sedan and updated it with new set of features. It is now blessed with aspects like six airbags along with rear parking sensors including a camera, which improves its safety quotient. At the same time, it also gets aspects like, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program, vehicle stability management, speed sensing automatic door lock, rear defogger with timer and clutch lock. Additionally, it also gets impact sensing auto door unlock, automatic headlight control and rear disc brakes, which explains about its safety standards.

Pros:

1. Updated infotainment system is a big plus point.

2. Refined exteriors and interiors adds to its advantage.

Cons:

1. Poor fuel economy is a big drawback.

2. Low ground clearance adds to its disadvantage.
