Weekly Wrap-Up: New Alto K10 Launched, A Stir over Road Safety in India and more

The week started with Next Gen Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 launch. The car gets a complete makeover and AGS (Auto Gear Shift), while the slightly tuned 1.0-litre K10B engine now returns 24.07kmpl of fuel economy. Rest of the week was dominated by the discussions on road safety and a welcome step by government to make frontal crash test must from October, 2015. It all started when Global NCAP posted frontal crash test reports of Maruti Suzuki Swift and Datsun GO, in which both the cars received ZERO safety ratings. Later, Max Mosely , chairman of Globan NCAP wrote a personal letter to Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn urging that company should withdraw Datsun GO from market as its body shell lacks structural integrity and needs an urgent redesign.

Maruti Suzuki India’s latest entrant Ciaz sedan has outperformed segment leader Honda City by retailing 6345 units against City’s 5,120 units. Bookings for the new Pajero Sport also started with a booking amount of Rs. 5 lac, the launch of the car is scheduled for 14th November. The week has also seen some discounts as Renault was offering discount on Duster and Hyundai on the diesel variants of Xcent, Grand i10 and Verna. With these discounts, there were also reports that manufacturer are mulling up to hike prices of their products. Cars like Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Elite i20 and some cars from BMW and Honda will also see a hike in prices.

Apart from these domestic happenings, a lot happened internationally as 2014 SEMA Motor Show was going on. Audi has revealed its next gen Audi Q3 and teased the Audi A9, which will be showcased at LA Motor Show. Mercedes-Benz will also showcase New C-Class at 2014 CeBIT in Bengaluru. Next Gen Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Launched at Rs 3.06 lac

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) has launched the much awaited next generation Alto K10 at Rs 3.06 lac while the AMT variant is priced at Rs 3.80 Lac  (Ex-Showroom, Delhi). Booking of next generation Alto K10 have already started with an advance payment of Rs 10,000. Seeing the great demand of Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) in Celerio, Maruti Suzuki has decided to add the AMT gearbox in its most selling hatch Alto K10. The car delivers a fuel economy of 24.07kmpl which is 15 per cent more than the outgoing model. According to the company, over 23 lakh Altos have been sold till date. Read More
